The semi final between Maria Sharapova and Maria Kirilenko reminds of the once famous Spy vs Spy cartoons as the two Russian Marias clash with each other.

World no.3 Maria Sharapova advanced to the $5.186 million BNP Paribas Open semis with a victory over Sara Errani of Italy on Wednesday to play against fellow Russian world no.15 Maria Kirilenko Saturday morning.

Kirilenko is 6-0 this year in three-set matches, including all four this tournament. She is 2-4 all-time against Sharapova, her semifinal opponent.

Both Russians have only played six times against each other since they first met at Los Angeles in 2005, with Maria Sharapova having a 4-2 winning over the other Maria.

In the absence of Serena Williams, Sharapova stands a fare chance to win the Indian Wells title this year.

The semi is planned for Saturday, 16 March at 03:30 GMT.

Victoria Azarenka ouclasses Ana Ivanovic

Oh what a match it was - the 14th ranked Serbian Ana Ivanovic seemed no match against the former world no.1 and now world no.2 Belorussian Victoria Azarenka who thrashed ivanovic 6-1, 6-0.

While the first was also simply one sided, the second set saw helpless Ivanovic ending up her most of the returns in the net or out of the court. The 6-0 in the second was not the game what Ivanovic had presented earlier.

Azarenka advances to the quarter-final of to meet Tamira Paszek. 

In an other fourth round match defending champion and No.4 seed Petra Kvitova defeated Francesca Schiavone 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 to enter the quarter-final of Wimbledon 2012 to meet 6th ranked American Serena Williams.
