Djokovic wins his Maiden Monte Carlo Title

Photo: Lionel Cironneau, AP

This is the news of the day: world no.1 Serbian Novak Djokovic wins his maiden Monte Carlo Masters Tennis title today at Monte Carlo.

The Serbian beat the much aspiring defending champion Rafael Nadal 6-2 and &(7)-6(1) and crashed any hopes the Spaniard had to win the Monte Carlo title for the record 9th consecutive times.

It may be added that Nadal won his 46 previous matches at Monte Carlo — beating Djokovic in last year's final — and his last defeat here was against Guillermo Coria 10 years ago. However, he won his first Monte Carlo title in 2005 and has since been the unbeaten champion for eight consecutive times - a world record in itself.

Djokovic faced Nadal for the 16th time in a championship decider, and they are now 8-8 in finals. Nadal had won the previous three, including the French Open final last year.

Nadal has reached five consecutive finals since returning from a knee injury in February — winning three, and losing two — while Australian Open champion Djokovic won his third title of the year and 37th overall.

Nadal to defend Monte Carlo title against Djokovic in the Final Sunday

Djokovic celebrates his win over Fognini in Monte Carlo Semis Today

As predicted, the outcome of the two semis was but obvious - that took Nadal and Djokovic to the final of the Monte Carlo.

In the first semi final, Spaniard Rafael Nadal took control of French Tsonga right from the start, taking the 6-3. However, Tsonga rebounded in the second set and made it difficult for Rafa to clinch the set much too easily. It was only after a determined effort by Tsonga that Rafa could win the second set 7-6(3)and the match 6-3, 7-6(3).

In the second set, it was Djokovic dominating all through over Fognini and won the match 6-2, 6-1. In the second set, Fognini seemed much in a hurry to call off the shots as he lost most of the points without any determined effort.

World no.1 Djokovic now faces the defending champion Nadal in the final Sunday tomorrow. Nadal is playing for his 9th consecutive title at Monte Carlo tomorrow. Would the Serbian let him do so?

See the match tomorrow.

Nadal eyes Monte Carlo for Consecutive 9th Time

Well Nadal is finally making headlines once again as Monte Carlo sets into motion.

Nadal, who is seeded 3rd after Djokovic and Andy Murray is playing his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 clay-court tournament of the year and is also in the same half of the draw as No. 6 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, No. 10 Nicolas Almagro and No. 13 Stanislas Wawrinka.

Nadal who has been away form the tennis world since his ouster form Wimbledon last year, has already started to make his presence felt. Rafael Nadal capped a stunning return to tennis with victory over  Juan Martin Del Potro in the final of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Nadal beat Del Potro 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Now with Djokovic and Murray in the race too, Nadal seems right on course for his 9th time title win.

It is very likely that Nadal may meet Murray in the semis - if that happens, this would be their 19th encounter. Nadal leads their head-to-head series 13-5, including a victories over the Scot in the 2009 and 2011 Monte-Carlo semi-finals.

Nadal successfully defends Monte Carlo Title for the Eighth Time

Nadal successfully defends Monte Carlo Title for the Eighth Time

Sunday 22 April 2012 will be a hallmark day for the Spainiard and World Number Two Rafeal Nadal who successfully defended his Monte Carlo Masters title for the eighth time today.
Watch the winning moment:

Winning the title is one thing, but defending it against the World Number One Noravak Djokovic is entirely another thing. The Serb who has been in pretty good shape lost ground under his feet when he gave in to Nadal just too easily: 6-3, 6-1.

Today's victory is not only 42nd victory for the Spainard at Monte Carlo, but it also end straight seven defeats at the hand of the Serb in title matches.

Nadal has shown great recovery from his knee injury which kept him away from any major title for the last ten months - inlcuding the French Open title, which he lst to Djokovic after a strenuous five set match in January early this year.

The red clay court right on the Mediterranean lookd marvelous and those who wintseed the match would cherish seeing the two of the best tennis players playing amid the the serene landscape.

Congratulations Nadal - now French Open is next challenge.

Monte Carlo Masters Final: Djokovic vs Defending Champion Nadal - watch live online

The red clay of Monte Carlo will feel the footsteps of two tennis giants when World Number One Norvak Djokovic meets the World Number Two and Monte Carlo Masters' defending champion Rafael Nadal Sunday afternoon.

Let us see who poses like this on Sunday as the final of Monte Carlo Masters comes to an end
Although Djokovic brushed aside Berdych in the semi finla Saturday, it wasn't before he lost the first set - something that NAdal may have to be watchful for as winning the first set Sunday should not make him relax as the Serb has the resilience and the determination to fight back and win.

The two are meeting after the five set long Australian Open, which the Serb won in what is called the longest ever grand slam final that lasted for almost six hours, five hours and 53 minutes to be exact.

Saturday's semi final between Nadal and Simon was a tester to check Nadal's finess - which he passed despite he was pushed hard by the Frenchman. It is time now that he gets into the best of him today to meet the World Number One who too is all set not to allow the Spainiard take the title the eighth time and his 42nd consecutive win.

Would history be made this Sunday at Monte Carlo? Let us all watch the match to see who final emerges as the victor.

The final takes place at 13:00 BST / 12:00 GMT / 13:45 Local time on Sunday, 22nd April 2012.

Nadal beats Simon to meet Djokovic in Monte Carlo Final

Well the second semi final between the World Number Two Rafael Nadal and Frenchman Simon is just over.

And as expected, Nadal overpowered Simon 6-3, 6-4 to move into the final of the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters tennis tournament to defend his title for the eighth time against World Number One Serbian Norvak Djokovic.

As per EuroSport:
At one point, Simon's shot clipped the top of the net and bounced back, which was emblematic of the fact he's had little luck today, but there could be little arguements when another cross-court backhand shot, well beyond Simon, gave Nadal victory without conceding a single point in the last game. The conditions were difficult today and there should be no shame on Simon's part, as he played superbly, but Nadal was the favourite and deserves to meet Djokovic in the final.

Djokovic storms into Monte Carlo Rolex Masters Final

Djokovic was not himself in the first set and let Berdych take the set 6-4. But that was all he could offer to Berdych. He then struck back and took the other two sets much too easily 6-3, 6-2.

He now faces, most probabaly the defending champion and World Number 2 Rafael Nadal, who is playing the Frenchman Simon in the second semi final of the Monte Carlo Masters at this time.

Monte Carlo Master Semis: Berdych Vs Djokovic - Free Live Streaming

Of the two semi finals planned for Saturday, the first is being played between the World Number One Serbian Djokovic and seventh seed Czech Berdych. While everyone thought that world Number 4 and Bitain's Number 1 Andy Murray would be making it to the semi final in his match against Berdych, many were proved wrong as the Czech made a remarkable win over Andy Murray and beat him 7-6, 2-6, 6-3. Djokovic on the other hand had no difficulty in over powering Robin Haase 6-4, 6-2.

As for the speculations today, unless the Czech comes up with something to surprise the World Number One as he did to World Number 4 Friday, Djokovic is the favourite for he has never lost to the Czech in their nine previous head-to-head encounters. Even Djokovic has lost only one match in the last ten matches he has played so far, while the Czech has lost two already.

Djokovic who is eyeing the title and may take advantage of the defending champion Rafael Nadal of his injured knee, if Nadal makes it to the final after his semi final duel with Simon later Saturday, to deprive the Spaniard the honour of winning the Monte Carlo title for the eighth consecutive time.

The semi final between Djokovic and Berdych is scheduled to be played at 11:00 GMT.

In the first quarterfinal on Friday at Monte Carlo, Monaco, the first setback came when World Number 4 and British Number 1 Andy Murray was beaten by 7th seeded Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic.

Murray with all his efforts could only create a single break point in the entire match. The Czech now takes on the defending champion Rafa Nadal in the semi final, if Nadal overpowers Robin Haase in the quarterfinal being played today.

Tsonga vs Simon: Monte Carlo Quarters - Watch Live Online

This Friday, the fourth quarterfinal of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters is being played between fourth seed French Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and ninth seed fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon.
