Africa Cup of Nations - the Semis Qualifiers

The Africa Cup of Nations has entered the last four stage with the end of the quarterfinals that were played on 2-3 February.

With the hosts South Africa knocked out of the tournament by Mali as the two teams having had 1-1 each by full time, extra time had to go to the penalties. In that South Africa scored once and missed thrice, while Mali scored on all three penalties. The results of the quarters are as under:

Mali vs South Africa          :1(3) - 1(1)
Nigeria vs Côte d'Ivoire   : 2-1
Burkina Faso vs Togo     : 1-0
Ghana vs Cape Verde     : 2-0

Now the four lucky semi finalists meet on 6 February for final pair decider as under:
Mali vs Nigeria at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban
Burkina Faso vs Ghana at Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit

The final will be played on 10th February at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg, while the third place play-off will take place on 9th February at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth.

Brazil, Colombia, Italy and Spain qulaify for FIFA Futsal World Cup Semi Finals

Of the four quarter finals played Wednesday today, Italy, Colombia, Brazil and Spain overpowered their opponents to qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012 at Bangkok, Thailand today Wednesday. 

The results of the completed quarter finals are as under:

• Brazil beat Argentina 3-2
• Colombia beat Ukraine 3-1
• Italy beat Argentina 4-3
• Spain beat Russia 3-2

Spain the the 2012 European champions and 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup runners-up outscored Russia 3-2 in a match which was being dubbed as the match of the day. Russia which had not conceded a single defeat till the quarters were finally overpowered by the European Champlain, Spain.

The semi finals will be played as under:

• Italy vs Spain
• Brazil vs Colombia

Shanghai Rolex Masters 2012: Federer, Djokovic, Murray and Berdych qualify for the semis

Today was yet another upset-less day at Shanghai Rolex Masters as all but one seeded players cleared their last hurdle before the semis.

The results of the quarterfinals are as under:

• Roger Federer (Switzerland) beat 10-Marin Cilic (Croatia) 6-3 6-4            
• Novak Djokovic (Serbia) beat Tommy Haas (Germany) 6-3 6-3                    
• Andy Murray (Britain) beat Radek Stepanek (Czech Republic) 4-6 6-2 6-3       

The only upset could be the match between 7th ranked Tomas Berdych (Czech Republic) and 6th ranked Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (France), in which Berdych beat Tsonga 6-3 7-6(4).4)

Now the crucial event starts Saturday, when Roger Federer meets Andy Murray, the way both had met the Olympics final and Andy won the gold.
