The Dutch hammer three more nails in Brazilian coffin

The Dutch did it tonight – hammering three more nails in the Brazilian coffin in the match for the third position of the World Cup 2014.

The Dutch goals spree started with the Persie’s conversion of a penalty right in the third minute, followed by another goal by Blind in the 16th. And then the battle continued for a goal from the hosts side but all half-attempted efforts went in vain.

And as if two goals were not enough to humiliate the Brazilians as Wijnaldum scored the third goal seconds before the final whistle to beat the hosts of World Cup 2014 with 3-0. And throughout the match, Brazil’s squad was booed by home fans in Brasilia.

The first Shock-wave from Brazil: The Dutch rout Spaniards

It has hardly been a day since the FIFA World Cup football 2014 started on 12th June that a major upset happened at Arena Fonte Nova when the Dutch met the defending champion Spain.

The Spaniards may be thinking of defending of their title but all their dreams were shattered when the Dutch stunned them with so much of humiliation with a 5-1 defeat.

Although Spain’s Alonso scored the first goal of the match in the 27th minute, and despite the fact that the Spaniards dominated the ball for most part of the match, the Dutch had something sinister in their mind – to annihilate the Spaniards.

Van Persie and Robben scored goal after goal from 44th minute onward and did not let the Spaniards recover from the shock-wave the Dutch sent in to the opposing camp. Tow goals each from Persie and Robben were added yet another goal from de Vrij to seal the victory – a stunning victory in fact for the Dutch.

This is the first shock wave sent out from Brazil just within two days of the tournament – how many more we would see – stay tuned.

Ivory Coast qualifies for World Cup 2014

Ivory Coast drew their match with Senegal in Casablanca, Morocco 1-1 to qualify for the World Cup 2014 Brazil.

They qualify unbeaten but that record was in serious danger after a largely lifeless display by Sabri Lamouchi's side. The match was played in Morocco after Senegal were barred from playing in Dakar following a riot at a Nations Cup qualifier against the Ivorians last year.

This is their third world cup qualification. In both 2006 and 2010, the Elephants were placed in tough groups so they will be hoping for kinder opposition when the draw for the finals is made on 6 December.

On Sunday, Cameroon host Tunisia while Tuesday's final day of action sees Burkina Faso take a narrow lead to Algeria while Egypt need to overturn five goals to overcome 2010 World Cup quarter-finalists Ghana.

Brazil strips Japan 3-0 in Confederations Cup Opener

The opening match of the Confederations Cup Saturday night turned out to be a one sided show as the host Brazil did not allow their Japanese opponent to come near their goal post.

Neymar celebrates his 3rd minute goal over Japan [Getty Images]
It was 21 years old Neymar who scored the first goal right in the third minute that took the Japanese by surprise - from which they could never recover throughout the remaining game. Neymar scored with a firm shot from outside the penalty area, connecting with the ball after Fred controlled a long cross from Marcelo with his chest. The ball bounced only once before Neymar fired it into the top corner.

It was Paulinho who scored another goal after the half time in the 48th minute to scare away their opponents. However, it was Jo who sealed the Brazilian victory in the 90th minutes third goal.

The win puts Brazil at the top of Group A with three points. Italy and Mexico will play in the other group match on Sunday.

The game was the first international match to use goal-line technology, but it was not needed for any decisions.

An attack-heavy Brazil and Asian champions Japan are set to play in the Confederations Cup opening game tonight at Estadio Nacional, Brasilia.

Japan, the first team to qualify for next summer's World Cup, should make for formidable opposition in the competition's opener. They plowed through Asian qualifying and will have their sights set on a semifinal place in this competition.

Brazil star man Neymar looks set to play in the hole behind in-form striker Fred in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

This is Brazil's first competitive match in 23 months, since defeat on penalties to Paraguay at the quarter-finals of the 2011 Copa America; their lack of meaningful action has seen them slide to an all-time low of 22nd in the latest FIFA rankings.

The match is scheduled for Saturday, 15 June 2013 at 19:00 GMT at Estadio Nacional, Brasilia.

Tigre then refused to return for the second half, claiming their players had been attacked by security guards in the dressing rooms. Luiz Scolari returns to Brazil

Luiz Felipe Scolari has been appointed Brazil’s coach for the second time. The former Chelsea and Portugal manager led Brazil to their fifth and last World Cup win in 2002 against Germany in South Korea and Japan.

Luiz Scolari return to Brazil

Scolari will replace Mano Menezes, who was dismissed because Confederation President Jose Maria Marin wasn't pleased with the past performance of the team and wanted a new approach for the upcoming big events.

-->

As Brazil will be hosting the Fifa World Cup 2014, Scolari is confident and aiming to win the sixth title for his country. The experienced Scolari led Portugal at the 2006 FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championships in 2004 and 2008.

Hamilton set a lap of 1 minute, 12.458 seconds with his McLaren at Interlagos, just .055 in front of teammate Jenson Button. Vettel's Red Bull teammate Mark Webber will start third after a lap of 1:12.581, with Vettel behind him following a run of 1:12.760.
