World no.3 Nadal [top] meets 7th ranked Berdych [bottom] in ATP Rome QF Friday

In the second Qf of the day world no. 3 Spaniard Rafael Nadal meets 7th ranked left handed Madrid finalist Czech Tomas Berdych Friday morning.

Earlier Rafael Nadal brushed aside fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers 6-1, 6-1 on Thursday in Rome to secure his place in the quarter-finals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. The Czech  Tomas Berdych defeated Almagro 7-6(3), 6-3 in the third round Thursday.

It is the sixteenth encounter of the two players. In the earlier fiften matches, Nadal has an upper edge of 12-3 over the Czech since 2005. Last time the two met was at Australian Open 2012, when Nadal beat Berdych 6-7(5) 7-6(6) 6-4 6-3.

In the last ten matches, Nadal has twice, the last against Federer at Madrid, while Berdych has lost once against F. Verdasco at Madrid too.
