The upset at Dubai Duty Free tennis Championship came too late - that is in the semis when world no 6 Czech Tomas Berdych upset world No. 2 Roger Federer Friday 3-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-4. It was Berdych's sixth win over the Swiss in their seventeen meetings.
In the second semi final, the top-ranked Djokovic stormed past fourth-seeded Juan Martin del Potro 6-3, 7-6 (4), in a match that was marked by a disputed time violation call that was a key turning point.
Now Saturday today, Berdych, the tournament's No. 3 seed, takes a 1-12 lifetime record into Saturday's final against Djokovic, who has won the last 10 times they have played.
They both last met at australian Open earlier this year in the quarters, when Djokovic beat Berdych 6-1 4-6 6-1 6-4.
Although Djokovic is the tournament favourite, nothing can be said of Berdych who is too resilient and can make Djokovic swaet real hard in today's final.
The final of Dubai Duty Free tennis Championship is scheduled at 15:00 GMT Saturday, 2 March at Dubai.
