Many thought Barcelona will prove to be a stubborn opponent to Bayern when the two met last night of their Champion League semi final match of the first leg. But it turned out to be a simple one sided game with Bayern completely dominating the match for complete two halves.
Mueller struck right in the 25th minute to open the account for the Germans. But most of the activity came in the second half, when just four minutes after the second half began Gomez added another goal to lead the match 2-0.
The quest for more goals for the Germans never died as a third goal came in 73rd minute by Robben. And finally to seal the fate of the Barca, Mueller struck for the second time just eight minutes before the final whistle blew and cemented the German victory over Barca 4-0.
The ruthless humiliation of Barcelona by Bayern shows the growing German power in European football as it was the worst Barca defeat in Europe since they were beaten by the same scoreline by Dynamo Kiev in 1997, and no team has lost the first leg of a European Cup tie by four or more goals and progressed to the next round.
