Arsenal - Chelsea stalemate at Emirates Stadium robs first slot from the Gunners

An important match for the Gunners went into a much undesired stalemate against the Blues at Emirates Stadium last night - crashing all hopes of the Gunners to stay as number one on the points table in the on going matches of the Premier League.

Although the Gunners dominated the match for most part of the play, its chargers failed to supply sufficient charge to the forwards to fire a goal right inside the goal post.

Frank Lampard came closest to breaking the deadlock when he hit the woodwork in the first half, while Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud wasted two good opportunities late on to claim the win that would have seen the Gunners leapfrog Liverpool.

Now we wait and see what is the outcome of matches after Christmas on 26 December when Liverpool plays Manchester City and Arsenal against West Ham United.

Chelsea beat Arsenal and moves to quarters

Like Manchester United, Chelsea too moved to the last eight of the Capital One Cup beating Arsenal in a goalless resistance. The Blues beat the Gunners 2-0.

Cesar Azpilicueta gave Chelsea a first-half lead on the break from an Arsenal corner, latching on to Carl Jenkinson's poor header back and poking in. The second goal came from Mata in the 66th minute which sealed the fate of the Gunners.

The match was a repeat of the 2007 League Cup final - which Chelsea also won - the result marked a second consecutive home defeat for Arsenal, the first time this has happened since February 2013, and reduces their chances of ending their eight-year trophy wait.

It may be added that Arsenal have been criticised for failing to defend properly from their own corners this season, and again they succumbed to a counter attack.

The victory takes the Blues in the quarters of the Capital One Cup.

Mourinho eyes Champions League progress

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes it is vital that the club progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League as it will benefit their exciting young players.

Despite being the defending champions, the Blues failed to make it past the group stages last term, with them having to make do with a place in the Europa League, a competition they eventually won, justifying their status as betting favourites in the odds.

However, the return of the ‘Special One’ has generated a new buzz around Stamford Bridge and they are now expected to challenge for success on all fronts, despite a Matchday One loss to Basel at home.

European glory is what ambitious owner Roman Abramovich craves the most though and Mourinho believes playing in the latter stages of the Champions League will only boost his side’s development.

“We want to qualify for the next stage,” the Portuguese coach said. “If you ask me for my objective, I just want to qualify for the next group stage. It’s important for the kids.

“It’s important for everyone. We start the match with four players under 22. And that, as we think in the club and the evolution of the club, is very important to play in a big stage.”

Chelsea agree to hire German Forward Schürrle for £18m

Germany's International Forward Andre Schürrle

Chelsea has agreed to hire the Germany's international  forward Andre Schürrle for a hefty £18m.

The deal has been struck with Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen for hiring the 22 years old forward by the Blues.

Andre Schürrle is set to become Jose Mourinho's first signing since his return as Chelsea manager.

Chelsea's official website has also acknowledged the deal:

Chelsea Football Club and Bayer 04 Leverkusen have reached an agreement for the transfer of André Schürrle, subject to the completion of legal documentation and related matters, including personal terms and passing a medical.

Andre Schürrle 11 goals in 34 league games in 2012-13 for Leverkusen, who finished in the third and final automatic Champions League qualifying place in the Bundesliga.

Benitez no more 'Interim Manager' - Napoli Hires him for Full Two Years

Rafael Benitez who never had an 'owned relationship' either with the Blues or with the Chelsea fans as their interim manager, must have taken a sigh of relief after Napoli hired him for two full years.

"I am very happy and very satisfied for having committed to a great club with an illustrious heritage like Napoli," said Spaniard Benitez.

It may be added that Benitez's stint as interim Chelsea boss is coming to an end and he will replace Walter Mazzarri, who has joined Napoli's Serie A rivals Inter.

Chelsea stun Manchester United with a last minute lone goal

What a match it was Sunday today when Manchester United, the top Premier League team clashed with Chelsea sitting at no.4 on the points table.

Both teams did their level best to score a goal but it wasn't till the the 87th minute when a deflected Juan Mata strike gave Chelsea a victory at a lackluster Manchester United. However, moments later, United's Rafael was sent off for kicking David Luiz.

With victory edging Chelsea a point ahead of Arsenal in the race for the Champions League places, Rafael Benitez's men - who have a game in hand over the Gunners - will be more satisfied by the win than the quality of their performance.

Barclays Premier League: Chelsea, Manchester United and City Succeed

The matches of Barclays Premier League played on Wednesday saw major names succeeding in beating their opponents.

At the Upton Park, Manchester United inched closer to regaining their Premier League title despite being held to a draw by West Ham United. The 2-2 draw started with Vaz Te of West Ham scoring the opener, which was equalized by Valencia in 31st minute. Diame of West Ham again struck in the 55th minute to take a 2-1 lead over the Devils. However, the equalizer from Persie in 77th minute made the match a draw.

Devils continue to sit on top of the world with 81 points.

Chelsea had a clean sweep over Fulham when it beat the latter 3-0 and move to the third place relegating Arsenal to fourth on the points table. While Luiz scored the opener in 30th minute, it was Terry who scored two goals in 43rd and 71st minutes.

In the third match, a lone goal in the 83rd minute by Tevez face saved Manchester City against Wigan. City struggled at the Etihad Stadium and were grateful for a fine Joe Hart save from Wigan striker Franco Di Santo in the first half. City continues to trail behind the Devils with 68 points.

Manchester City beat Chelsea to Meet Wigan Athletic in FA Cup Final

For Chelsea, no day could have been worst than today's as Manchester City beat them 2-1 to make their place in the final of the FA Cup.

Citizen Nasri opened the account for Man City in the 35th minute. The lead was solidified by Aguero in the 47th minute.

However, the Blues continued to find ways to sneak a goal or two in the Citizens' net - but could get only one in the 66th minute by Ba.

Roberto Mancini's side may be on the brink of losing their Premier League title to Manchester United - but the prospect of silverware for a third successive season keeps their campaign very much alive and they delivered a real show of power for the first hour.

Manchester City, the 2011 winners, will now meet Wigan Athletic in the final.
