Wimbledon: Day 3 Update

The third day at Wimbledon saw Roger Federer on the Centre Court as against on COurt No.1 Tuesday in his first round match. Wednesday today, world no.3 Swiss Roger Federer defeated Italian Fabio Fognini with much ease 6-1, 6-3, 6-2.

Richard Gasquet, the 19th ranked French and 131th ranked left handed Belgian Ruben Bemelmans play their second round match on Court No.2 Wednesday afternoon, 27 June 2012.

Gasquet has lost three of his ten matches, two on clay at Rome and French Open and one at grass at Eastbourne. He moves to the second round beating T Kamke.

The Belgian has lost three of his last ten matches, one on clay and two on grass. He has won his last four matches in succession. He beat C Berlocg in the first round.

Both players are playing their first ever match against each other.

The match is scheduled for Wednesday, 27 June 2012 at 14:30 GMT on Court No.2

47th ranked Belgian Kim Clijsters plays her second round match against 90th ranked Czech Andrea Hlavackova Wednesday afternoon on the Centre Court.

Clijsters is reviving her game after many decisons of quitting and has been doing fine so far, winning seven of her last ten matches. However she admits that that her body isn't up to the demands of professional tennis anymore, but she is desperate not to quit without one last taste of the Wimbledon experience. Clijsters announced earlier this year that the U.S. Open will be her last Grand Slam tournament.


She won her first round match against J. Jankovic 6-2 6-4 Tuesday.

Andrea Hlavackova has not fared badly so far as she won six of her last ten matches. She lost one match on clay and three on grass. She moved to second round beating K. Chang 6-1 6-2.

For Wednesday's second round match, the Belgian is being considered as favourite.

The match is scheduled for Wednesday, 27 June 2012 at 16:00 GMT on Centre Court

Recently elevated to World no.1 after her magnificent win at Roland Garros against Italian Errani, Russian Maria Sharapova plays her second round match against 38th ranked Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova at Court No.1 Wednesday afternoon.

Both ladies have met thrice before since 2007 Istanbul and the Russian has a clear winning edge of 3-0.

Sharapova is in high spirits after winning the Roland Garros crown and is now eyeing the Wimbledon she lost in 2011. She has won all her last ten matches, nine on clay and one on grass Tuesday against A. Rodionova 6-2 6-3 in Wimbledon first round.

Pironkova has won six and lost four of last ten matches. She moved to second round after beating V Dolonc 5-7 6-0 7-5.

For Wednesday's second round match, the Russian remains the hot favourite.

The match is scheduled for Wednesday, 27 June 2012 at 14:30 GMT on Court No.1

World no.1 and defending champion Serbian Novak Djokovic plays his second round match against 48th ranked American Ryan Harrison, who is five years younger to him, at the Centre Court at Wimbledon Wednesday afternoon.

Djokovic had only once played against the American in America at ATP Cincinnati in 2011 and defeated him 6-2, 6-3 in the second round.

All set to defend his title this year too and start bagging the Grand Slam titles afresh, the Serbian has lost only two matches of thelast ten played ths year so far, interestingly both times at hands of NAdal at Rome and French Open on clay.He moved to the Wimbledon second round beating J.C. Ferrero 6-3 6-3 6-1.

Harrison has an equal win-loss ratio of his last ten matches. He lost four on clay and on on grass lately against Seppi at ATP Eastbourne.

For Wednesday's second round match, Serbian remains the hot favourite.

The match is scheduled for Wednesday, 27 June 2012 at 17:30 GMT at the Centre Court.

World no.3 Swiss Roger Federer enters the second round of Wimbledon and plays against 68th ranked Italian Fabio Fognini on the Centre Court Wednesday, 27 June.

Tuesday, Federer brushed aside albert Ramos 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 on Court No.1. It is strange that a player of Federer's ranking was put to play on Court No.1 isntead of Centre Court. In fact since 2003, it was the first time that Federer was put to play on Court No.1, while Andy Murray who is at a notch lower than Federer played his match on Centre Court Tuesday.

Federer has had a good start this year, if not very good for he has not been able to win a Grnad Slam so far. He has lost two of his last ten matches one at French clay and the other at Halle green grass. He lost to Tommy Haas at Hale final while trying to win the Halle title for the record sixth time.

Now he is eyeing the Wimbledon for the seventh time at the age of 31 - something that would be magnificient if achieved.

As for Italian Fabio Fognini, federer has met him only once at  ATP Tournament Masters Rogers Cup, played on hard court, in 2007 and won.Fognini has lost four of his last ten matches, three on clay and one on grass at Eastbourne against Roddick.

For Wednesday's second round match, Federer remains the hot favourite.

The match is scheduled for Wednesday, 27 June 2012 at 12:00 GMT on Centre Court.
