Today I got a chance to watch an interesting and forceful match between 17-times Grand Slam winner Roger Federer and British Andy Murray, the 2013 Wimbledon and US Open titilist, at Rod Laver Arena during a quarter final match.

While Murray had stamina and youth, Federer made use of his experience and worn out the British through long rallies. Murray to an extent was handicapped by his back pain and his agony could be felt during the third set onward.

Federer finally over powered the British  6-3, 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 to qualify for the semis and will play his 11th successive Melbourne semi-final here on Friday against world no.1 Rafael Nadal.

After Nadal, Federer too Crashes Out of Wimbledon

In the second major upset of Wimbledon 2013, defending champion Roger Federer also crashed out of the race to defend his title Wednesday yesterday.

It was world number 116 Sergiy Stakhovsky who showed the exit to seven-time winner Federer 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 7-6 (7-5). It was his earliest Grand Slam exit since losing in the first round of the French Open in 2003.

The day also saw exit of a possible semi finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, withdrew from his second-round match because of an injury, one of seven men and women to do so on day three.

Earlier Nadal had been knocked out of the first round.

This leaves a much much easier way to the final for British Andy Murray who now must be eyeing the title more than Djokovic - the only other possible finalist for the Wimbledon.

In another setback, world np.2 Russian Maria Sharapova’s 6-3,  6-4 defeat by Michelle Larcher de Brito, the world No 131 from Portugal, was a seismic shock - and paved way for a easy final win over by Serena Williams before the world No 1 has even played her second match.

Federer vs Nadal: Free Live Streaming | Indian Wells Quarter Finals - 15 March

Well as expected, world no.5 left handed Rafael Nadal meets defending champion world no.2 Swiss Roger Federer in the quarter final of Indian Wells Master tennis tournament on night 14-15 March tonight.

It will be their first meeting for 12 months, since Federer beat Nadal in straight sets in the semi-finals in Indian Wells.

Nadal who is making his presence felt after recovering from his knee injury, beat Latvian Ernests Gulbis  4-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory in the fourth round at the BNP Paribas Open on Wednesday night. Losing first set was a bad, but finally the Spaniard regained control and won the next two sets.

As for Federer, he advanced to the quarters beating his fellow countryman Stanislas Wawrinka 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-5 in two hours and 20 minutes. Like Nadal, Federer too survived a close call by Wawrinka, which he duly acknowledged after the match.

"Today it was extremely close again. Okay, I should [have] maybe closed it out in the second set, but he did well to stay in it," Federer said. "At the end, I don't know what got me through. Maybe it's the experience or maybe I was a bit more calm in those moments. I'm not sure. Today I think I was a little lucky to come through it in the end."

So let us watch the blockbuster quarterfinal between old rivals and world nos. 2 and 5 live tonight and see whether Nadal can show his come back fitness or the 31 years old defending champion overtakes him and continues his move forward to defend his title.

Australian Open: When the going gets tougher for the 'Aged' - Serena and Federer

The age tells - specially when you are playing high profile games like tennis.

Earlier today, we saw 31 years old American Serena Williams struggling against 20 years old fellow American Sloane Stephens and losing in the crucial quarter final match of the Australian Open.

Having won the first set 6-3, Serena's injuries came back to haunt her once again - the same injuries for which she has been way for most part of the last year till Wimbledon. Although she has since being doing extremely fine and some even started to say that she was the de facto world no.1 as Victoria Azarenka, the world no.1, failed to win any major even in 2012 except the Australian Open.

But her today's performance showed signs of aging which tell in the form of injuries and giving away.

The same also happened to Roger Federer, also 31, struggling his quarter final match against Tsonga, who is four years younger to Federer. Having won the first set 7-6(4) with some difficulty, Federer and Tsonga started to play hide and seek. Federer lost the next set 4-6 but came back to game when he won his second set at 7-6(4). He still lost the next set 3-6 to Tsonga. And finally overcame him in the fifth and final set 6-3 to qualify for the semis.

Some wonder what if Wawrinka was Federer's opponent today? Would Federer have still won? Many doubt it.

Anyway, Federer moves on to the semis to face Murray - who is likely to be quite a resistance to Federer.

Roger Federer vs Nikolay Davydenko: Watch Live Free Streaming | Second Round - Australian Open 17 January

While all the matches played so far have been between top ranking stars and unseeded or very low ranking players, some almost unknown, the opponent that world no.2 Roger Federer is to face in his second round match is the one who is very well known to the Swiss - Nikolay Davydenko, the 40th ranked from Russia.

Nikolay Davydenko met Roger Federer ten years earlier at Milan in 2002 and has since played NINETEEN matches against the Swiss, winning only two - which means Roger Federer has overpowered the Russian in the remaining SEVENTEEN matches.

Both aged 31 years, played their last match at Semi Finals of Rotterdam in 2012, which Federer won 6-3, 6-4, after losing the first set 4-6 to the Russian.

Federer, though now aging, has already said that he would be playing selectively, and training more to ensure his longevity for quite sometime now. However, this time he has his eyes set on the title, like Andy Murray and of course the defending champion Djokovic, and will be putting in his best to win the title.

It remains to be seen how best and easily he can overcome his opponents, without tiring out himself for the final show. But for now, it is his old rival Nikolay Davydenko who is to be tackled with at Rod Laver Arena tomorrow.

The match is scheduled at 08:00 GMT Thursday 17, January at Rod Laver Arena.
