So we have reached the women singles' final of the Miami Masters that is being played between the
World no. 1 Serena Williams against world no.2 Maria Sharapova Saturday afternoon today.
31 years old Serena is eyeing the Miami title for the record sixth time and seems to be in shape despite signs of aging. She beat Agnieszka Radwanska 6-0, 6-3 in the semis showing almost complete mastery over her game.
Williams is bidding to become just the fourth woman in the modern era to win the same event six times, joining Chris Evert, Steffi Graf and Martina Navratilova. Evert is the only player over the age of 30 to win the title, doing so at the age of 31 years, two months in 1986.
Serena has met Sharapova thirteen times before the Saturday's encounter today since they first met at here at Miami in 2004 in the fourth round. Since then Serena has won over the Russian eleven times and Serena is in a winning spree over Sharapova consecutively for the last 10 times. They last met at Doha semis when Serena beat Sharapova 6-3, 6-2.
Now it is up to the Russian to finally show herself and contain Serena, lest she bags the sixth Miami title today. But the records are not in favour of Sharapova as the four-time Grand Slam champion lost to Kim Clijsters in the 2005 Miami final, to Svetlana Kuznetsova in 2006, Victoria Azarenka in 2011 and Radwanska last year - all in straight sets.
Let us watch the match today and see whether age and experience win or youth and exhuberance!!
