South Africa wins Cape Town Test by 4 Wickets - Wins series 2-0

The visiting Pakistan cricket also lost the second test match against South Africa by four wickets at the picturesque  Newlands stadium, Cape Town, South Africa on the fourth day of test match Sunday today.

South Africa winning the toss had invited the visitors to bat on the Valentine day. The visitors though stumbled initially for the loss of four wickets, but then Younis and Asad, who scored 111 runs each, gave support to the team and set a target of 338 for the hosts. Philander was the most successful bowler of South Africa, who took 5/59, including the wickets of Younis and Asad.

South Africa were however contained in their first innings by remarkable bowling of Saeed Ajmal, who took 6/96, specially the all five first wickets. However, it was Peterson's 84 that gave stability to South Africa who remained 12 runs short of the target at 326.

Coming to bat again  Pakistan's second innings was a fiasco. Except for Azhar's 65 and captain Misbah's 44, the entire team crumbled and were all out on the third day for mere 169. Philander again struck with 4/40 and Steyn with 3/38.

With a target of 182, the hosts were not in any difficulty at all. Although Peterson was lbw for 1 by Umer Gul right in the start, the following batsmen added runs despite Saeed's 4/51 and met the target with four wickets remaining.

The victory brings the hosts a 2-0 series win over Pakistan. The victory today was their fifth Test win in a row and sixth consecutive series victory. Peterson was declared player of the match.

Pakistan now plays the third test at  Centurion  from 22-26 February.

Pakistan may miss bowler Junaid who is injured and may be replaced with Tanvir Ahmed.

The hosts and the Smith Xi will be looking for a victory at Cape Town to win the series with the help of their bowlers and batsmen. Pakistan will have to be cautious of South Africa’s pace trio — Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander - it is now up to the visitors to stand up to the challenge and try to equalize the series 1-1 for now.

Watch Live 2nd Test between South Africa-New Zealand: Free Streaming | 11-15 January

The touring New Zealand cricket team faces the hosts South Africa in the second test that begins Friday morning today and will continue for five days till 15th January at St George's Park, Port Elizabeth.

I came at some interesting facts about Port Elizabeth at ESPN cricinfo and thought of sharing here:
This will be the 24th Test played at St George's Park but the first since December 2007 when West Indies won by 128 runs.
South Africa have lost their last three Tests on the ground. Their last victory came in 2000 with a seven wicket win over New Zealand.
That was one of three Tests New Zealand have played at St George's, they also lost on their first visit in 1950 but won by 40 runs in 1962.
The possible opposing squads for the 1st ODI:
South Africa
GC Smith*, HM Amla, AB de Villiers†, F du Plessis, D Elgar, JH Kallis, RK Kleinveldt, R McLaren, M Morkel, AN Petersen, RJ Peterson, VD Philander, JA Rudolph, DW Steyn

New Zealand
BB McCullum*, TA Boult, DAJ Bracewell, DG Brownlie, DR Flynn, JEC Franklin, MJ Guptill, MJ McClenaghan, BP Martin, CS Martin, C Munro, JS Patel, N Wagner, BJ Watling†, KS Williamson

The pitch in Port Elizabeth should be slow and low as usual. No rain is forecast, but serious winds, and if it's the South Easter, it will come off the sea and will increase moisture around the ground. That's expected on the second day.

So both teams are going to relive in their memories when they meet today Port Elizabeth. Would it be possible for the hosts to win or would the visitors prevail?

The Test match is scheduled from Friday, 11 January to 15th January daily at 10:30 local time (08:30 GMT) at St George's Park, Port Elizabeth.

Pakistan's Hafeez shows teeth to Sri Lanka with his career best 172

Pakistan's opener Muhammad Haffez showed his teeth to the hosts Sri Lanka on the first day of the 2nd Test at Colombo by his unbeaten career best 172.

Muhammad Hafeez scores 196 on Day-2 of 2nd test against Sri Lanka at Colombo
Pakistan cricket squad, which was mauled for 209 runs by the Islanders with a day to spare in the first test at Galle, looked over confident for a repeat performance in the second test.

Sri Lankan must be licking their decision and gamble of opting to field despite winning the toss Saturday morning at Colombo when Hafeez struck with his fifth test century and career best 172 on day one of the 2nd test match.

Hafeez's superb almost double century put Pakistan in a commanding position with 334-1 on day one.  Hafeez, Pakistan's vice captain, shared 256 runs for the second wicket partnership with Azhar (92 not out), followed by the opening stand with Taufiq, who fell victim to Mathews at 65.

However, after the day-2 started, Hafeez could not complete his second century and was back in pavilion for 196 bowled by Herath. Azhar Ali has made his century and is at 121, playing with Younis Khan at the time of writing this post.

Pakistan Vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Live Streaming | Jun 30-Jul 4, 2012

Pakistan, after a miserable performance in its first test match against Sri Lanka, plays the second test at Colombo beginning 30 June.

Sri Lanka beat Pakistan in the first test at Galle by 209 runs right on the fourth day and now leads Pakistan 1-0 in  athree test matches series.  The miserable performance by the visitors came after the loss of the five ODI series to Sri Lanka 3-1, with one of the ODIs, the fourth one,  wshed away in rain.

Sri Lanka has not won a Test series since defeating New Zealand 2-0 at home in August 2009 and is eagergly eyeing the second test and win the series at least 2-1 or even completely whitewash it.

Thanks to weak Pakistan batting line which has failed not only in the first test but aslo in the ODI series. Whatever gains Pakistan side has had is attributed to the bowlers, specially the spinners. as Pakistan's spinners claimed 11 of 14 Sri Lankan wickets at Galle. saeed Ajmal came out on top with seven wickets.

Let us watch the 2nd ODI with the hope that Pakistani nbatsmen shien for a change or else lose the series to the Islanders.

The opposing teams for the second test are:

Sri Lanka: DPMD Jayawardene*, AD Mathews, LD Chandimal, TM Dilshan, ANPR Fernando, CRD Fernando, HMRKB Herath, HAPW Jayawardene†, S Randiv, KMDN Kulasekara, BMAJ Mendis, NT Paranavitana, NLTC Perera, TT Samaraweera, KC Sangakkara

Pakistan: Misbah-ul-Haq*, Abdur Rehman, Adnan Akmal†, Afaq Raheem, Aizaz Cheema, Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Faisal Iqbal, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Ayub, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Sami, Saeed Ajmal, Taufeeq Umar, Umar Gul, Younis Khan
