Ferrer beats Petzschner to win UNICEF Open

Top-seeded David Ferrer beat unseeded Philipp Petzschner 6-3, 6-4 Saturday to win the UNICEF Open grass-court tournament, at Den Bosche, Netherlands. 

This is the second title win for Ferrer - he first won the title in 2008.

Ferrer broke Petzschner's serve twice in the opening set and once in the second, closing the match with a love game to comfortably win the Wimbledon warm-up.

Top seed David Ferrer, who advanced to the final of the UNICEF Open on Friday in ‘s-Hertogenbosch after finishing strong to defeat Frenchman Benoit Paire 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-1, faces German qualifier Philipp Petzschner, who defeated Belgium’s Xavier Malisse 7-5, 7-5 in the semis.

World No. 6 Ferrer is contesting his 30th tour-level final, and his second on grass. He won this ATP World Tour 250 title on his tournament debut in 2008 (d. Gicquel). He has a 3-1 record in finals this season, winning the hard-court title in Auckland and clay-court crowns in Buenos Aires and Acapulco.

The 28-year-old Petzschner is through to his third ATP World Tour singles final and first since finishing runner-up to Philipp Kohlschreiber on grass in Halle a year ago.

Canadian Duclos has lost four of his last ten matches, but has won his last three matches at ATP 's Hertogenbosch. Befoe playing Ferrer today, he beat N. Desein 7-6(8) 6-4.

Both players have never layed before - but keeping in view their standing and rating, one can always make a gues as to the predicted winner.

Both ladies have never met before in their career and it would be the first time since Miami that Belgian Clijsters is playing after Miami. Clijsters has lost twice in the last ten matches, six at Australian Open and four at Miami, has lost twice. She lost to Azarenka in Australian Open and Y. Wickmayer at Miami. She moves to Unicef Open after beating R. Oprandi 6-7(5) 6-2 6-3 in the first round.

The 67th seeded Ukranian Kateryna Bondarenko has had a troubled 2012 so far, for having lost six of her last ten matches. She last lost to Y Chan in French Open recently. Kateryna Bondarenko beat Roland Garros finalists against Sharapova Italian Sara Errani in the first round 5-7 6-3 6-4.

The second round match between Clijsters and Bondarenko is being played at 12:30 GMT, Tuesday 19 June 2012.
