Czech pair defeat Swiss pair in longest match of Davis Cup history

When the defending champion pair Tomas Berdych and Lukas Rosol entered the court to play against their Swiss opponents Stanislas Wawrinka and Marco Chiudinelli in the double rubber, they did not know that they were into a history making match.

The match began with a hide and seek of winning and losing alternate games but the final set prolonged to 24-22 and it took Czech pair SEVEN hours and two minutes to finally win the match 6-4, 7-6, 6-4, 6-7, 24-22.

It seemed both pairs were not giving in as match continued till a double fault by the Swiss pair ended the game in favour of the Czechs.

The previous match record was six hours and 22 minutes. That was held by American John McEnroe's 9-7 6-2 15-17 3-6 8-6 win over Sweden's Mats Wilander in 1982 before tie-breaks were contested.

Berdych and Rosol's doubles victory is now the second longest match ever behind American John Isner's 6-4 3-6 6-7 7-6 70-68 win against Frenchman Nicolas Mahut in the first round of Wimbledon in 2010. That match was played over three days and the pair spent 11 hours and five minutes on court.

Czech Republic vs Portugal: Free Live Streaming: Euro 2012 Quarterfinals- 21 June

Czech Republic plays against Portugal in the first quarterfinal of Euro 2012 Thursday 21 June.

Czech Republic which tops the Group A is facing Portugal placed at second place below Germany on the point table of Group B, after it beat Netherlands 2-1. The Czechs, who entered the tournament as underdogs,  reached the last eight as Group A winners, recovering from an opening 4-1 defeat to Russia to beat Greece and co-hosts Poland.

As the teams move to play the quarterfinals, the temperatures, hopes, expectations and claims are rising. Czech Republic coach Michal Bilek firmly believes his side can beat Portugal in the opening Euro 2012 quarter-final in Warsaw provided they repeat their recent performances.

The Portugeese are mainly relying on Ronaldo, who scored twice against Holland to increase his tally for Portugal to 34 goals.

Now who can move on to the semis from today's match? Well the Czech Republic have eliminated Portugal at the same stage in 1996 1-0. On the other hand Portugal's victories over Denmark and Netherlands came on the back of four defeats in 2012, in which it scored just one goal.

Many predict that emerging from the Group of Death was a great achievement for Portugal and they look very likely to progress to the Semi Finals with a win against the Czech Republic. The final score Thursday tonight may end up something like 2-1 or 3-1 in favour of the Portugeese.

We wait and see....

Czech Republi vs Poland [Euro 2012]: Free live streaming - 16 June

In the Group A of matches of the Euro 2012, Czech Republic plays against Poland at Stadion Miejski (Wrocław) Saturday, 16 June 2012.

Poland, which has had both of its opening group matches ending in drawns, it must now win thier final group match against the Czechs. A draw would see Poland eliminated - although it may not guarantee the Czechs a place in the last eight (depending on the result of Greece-Russia).

The Poles can do it as the Czechs goalkeepr has shown weakness in stopping onslaught on his goal post so far. In fact Czech Republic have conceded almost two goals per game on average in 2012, which will give Poland plenty of confidence ahead of Saturday's match.

Czech Republic's team will also me missing its captain Rosicky who has shown his inabaility to play due to an injured Achilles tendon.

The Poles should take strength from the fact that their six wins against the Czechs have come in their last six games on home turf against them.

The match is scheduled for Tuesday, 11 June 2012 at 19:45 GMT at Stadion Miejski (Wrocław)

The second set of matches within the group start from Tuesday, with the first match between Greece and the Czech Republic at the newly built Municipal Stadium Wroclaw, Poland.

The match between the two teams will be the ninth international match between the two teams and third in the European Cup finals. The match between Greece and Czech Republic could determine who goes to qualify from Group A and into the KO stages.

While Greece levelled 1-1 draw againsts hosts Poland in their first Group A match, the Czech Republic’s 4-1 thrashing by Russia in their opening game was their heaviest ever defeat.

As for Greece, their team has a soldi defence but they lack players with after burners to charge forward in to opposing goal line.

Czech Republic have won five, lost one and draw two in eight previous meetings. They scored 11 and conceded three goals in these matches.

In the last three encounters between Greece and the Czech Republic, only one goal has been scored. That was at the 2004 finals. Though Greece have never conceded a goal against the Czechs, they had an appalling record against their predecessors Czechoslovakia who beat them in all five matches they played.

As for the Tuesday's match between Greece and the Czech republic, analysts predict a draw between Greece and Czech Republic.
