Czech Republic plays against Portugal in the first quarterfinal of Euro 2012 Thursday 21 June.
Czech Republic which tops the Group A is facing Portugal placed at second place below Germany on the point table of Group B, after it beat Netherlands 2-1. The Czechs, who entered the tournament as underdogs, reached the last eight as Group A winners, recovering from an opening 4-1 defeat to Russia to beat Greece and co-hosts Poland.
As the teams move to play the quarterfinals, the temperatures, hopes, expectations and claims are rising. Czech Republic coach Michal Bilek firmly believes his side can beat Portugal in the opening Euro 2012 quarter-final in Warsaw provided they repeat their recent performances.
The Portugeese are mainly relying on Ronaldo, who scored twice against Holland to increase his tally for Portugal to 34 goals.
Now who can move on to the semis from today's match? Well the Czech Republic have eliminated Portugal at the same stage in 1996 1-0. On the other hand Portugal's victories over Denmark and Netherlands came on the back of four defeats in 2012, in which it scored just one goal.
Many predict that emerging from the Group of Death was a great achievement for Portugal and they look very likely to progress to the Semi Finals with a win against the Czech Republic. The final score Thursday tonight may end up something like 2-1 or 3-1 in favour of the Portugeese.
We wait and see....
