Amir Khan Ties Knot 'before he loses his looks in a fight'

Britain's boxing champion Amir Khan who tied a knot with US student Faryal Makhdoom in a lengthy ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria in New York at the weekend says he wanted to marry before he 'lost his looks' in a fight.

The boxer - pictured above with his new bride wearing elaborately stitched red and gold robes - told the magazine: 'I think I'll change as a person when I'm married and it'll be a big plus for me, I'll be able to be more focused on my job too.'

The Bolton-born champion married the 21-year-old political science student in a week-long, elaborate Islamic ceremony.

Khan, who beat rival Julio Diaz in the ring just weeks ago, also revealed the pair are ready to start a family: 'I've lived the young life, I've done everything I've wanted to do. Now is the right time to settle down and start my own family.'

The couple, who got engaged in January 2012, are expected to have an even bigger wedding in Amir's hometown of Bolton, with a reported 4,000 guests attending.

The fight which Khan termed as a 'make or break' fight, was desperately needed by British boxer Amir Khan to get back into form and look ahead with a renewed vigour and form.

Amir was defeated by Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia over the last 12 months and had many people questioning Khan's fitness and even future.

Winning over Molina, who has been unbeaten so far- with 17 wins and a draw was a treat for Khan, specially when given a largely hostile welcome by the largely Latin American crowd, Khan stayed true to his pre-fight vow that he would be more patient.

Renowned British boxer Amir Khan is not suffering from a chin injury but it is his right arm that is bothering him. Would he be able to overcome this?

This has been disclosed by Freddie Roach, the world renowned trainer sacked by Khan after the knock-out which has put his career in jeopardy, has revealed the injury which has to be overcome on the climb back to the boxing summit.

With Khan no longer in attendance and Manny Pacquiao back in the Philippines licking his wounds after his shock KO by Juan Manuel Marquez, the fabled Wild Card gym in Hollywood was relatively quiet as Roach explained why Khan’s move up in weight divisions, to light-welter, is not the reason for his apparently reduced punching power of late, reports Jeff Powell of Daily Mail.

Roach said: ‘Amir’s hitting as hard as ever in sparring because he knows that if something goes wrong its not as important in the gym as if it happens in a fight in the ring. The problem is that he’s a little wary throwing his right hand now.

‘He suffered some damage to the right wrist a while back and once any fighter gets hand trouble it’s with him for the rest of his life.'

Pacquiao welcomes another fight with Marquez

Manny Pacquiao says he welcomes another fight with Juan Manuel Marquez, one that would put them into an elite class of boxing champions who have met five times in the ring.

Marquez registered an emphatic victory by rallying to floor Pacquiao with a thundering right hand with just one second remaining in the sixth round at the sold out MGM Grand Garden arena, Las Vegas.

Asked in the ring after the fight if he would fight Marquez again, Pacquiao replied, "I would go for a fifth."

"I am going to rest and come back to fight," said Pacquiao, whose face was swollen and red after getting knocked out Saturday by Marquez in the fourth installment of their epic boxing rivalry.

Boxing legend 'Macho' is brain dead

The former super lightweight, lightweight and junior welterweight world champion and boxing legend Hector “Macho” Camacho is clinically brain dead, doctors said Thursday. However, his family are in dispute over the decision to turn off his life support.

Former world champion Camacho was left fighting for his life after being shot in the face in a drive-by shooting in his native Puerto Rico on Tuesday night.

But after a series of tests, medics say there is no hope for the 50-year-old. Dr Ernesto Torres – director of the hospital in the capital San Juan where the star is being kept alive – said: “We have done everything we could.

“We have to tell the people of Puerto Rico and the entire world that Macho Camacho has died, he is brain dead.”

Camacho’s father has already indicated that he wants the former boxer taken off life support and his organs donated, but one of his sisters is against the idea. Friend Ismael Leandry said Camacho’s mother is also wavering on taking her son off life support and would like more time with him.

What, you were expecting tennis history? Turns out you'll have to wait at least another day—and who knows—maybe two.

At the French Open on Sunday, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal battled to a near draw when a persistent drizzle turned into a heavier rain and postponed this already-historic final until Monday. Nadal won the first two sets 6-4, 6-3, but lost the third 6-2 and trailed by a break of serve at 2-1 when play was called for the night. Each player had won exactly 97 points when play was stopped.

For much of the day, Nadal seemed likely to win in straight sets. When Nadal broke serve for a 4-3 lead in the second, Djokovic smashed his racket into his bench, opening a hole in it and sending fragments of it flying onto the court. A game later, the rain picked up and the players were sent off. When they returned, Nadal broke serve again and won the first two games of the third set. Djokovic looked disgusted.

So here it is: the much talked about fight of the welterweight title between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley, which takes place Saturday - Sunday night in Las Vegas.

And to everyone's surpise, Manny Pacquiao who will be defending his title for the fourth time, weighed a career heavy 147 pounds - though Timothy Bradley weighed a pound less and scaled 146 ponds.

Now what is it for tonight - would Pacquiao win over Bradley or the latter gives a surprise? This what everyone is asking and gossiping. Already the underdog Bradley for the fight has vowed to wage war as he remarked: "I'm ready for war," as he looked intensely into Pacquiao's eyes during the posedown.

And you know what Pacquiao did? Well he smiled, as always. 

But who wages war and who defends the welterweight title, we will get to see Saturday night at 02:00 GMT - that is the the bout starts when it is Sunday.

Former world light-welterweight champion, Amir Khan, will take on the undefeated American prospect Danny Garcia for the WBC title on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and he thinks his fight will not be overshadowed by the controversy of David Haye and Dereck Chisora, who will also fight each other on the same date.

Former WBA heavyweight champion Haye and former British heavyweight champion Chisora locked many headlines in the country after they literally came down to blows in a press conference in Munich. Therefore, many out there eagerly want to see them fighting each other in the ring.

Boxing: Women's World Championship Draw Complete

The 2012 London Olympic Games will see boxing history made when women take to the ring for the first time ever in Olympic competition. Fans of boxing will be able to see gender equality in the sport on the world's biggest stage.

The draw for the Women's World Championships were held in Qinhuangdo, China May 11. 

Boxing slots open for the Olympics will now have to come under a continental quota system. The wrinkle means wins at the World Championships are only part of what will be considered. There will still be eight boxers from each weight class who will get berths out of China, but continental numbers will play a part.

Peterson's dope test casts doubt on Khan bout

The heavily anticipated rematch between Britain's Amir Khan and Lamont Peterson, scheduled for May 19 in Las Vegas, has been cast in doubt after the American tested positive for a banned substance, organizers said on Tuesday.

Peterson, who beat Khan in controversial circumstances to win the WBA super-lightweight and IBF light-welterweight belts in December, failed a drug test administered by the Las Vegas-based Voluntary Anti-Doping Association in March.

The rematch had been ordered when Khan's camp criticized the referee's actions and were shocked by television replays showing a mystery man in a hat talking with a judge ringside, prompting the WBA to order a rematch.

The 'mystery man' was identified as Mustafa Ameen, who is an IBF volunteer helping cash-strapped boxers. He denied interfering with the judges' scorecards.

Mayweather impressive against Cotto

Floyd Mayweather Jr. was getting ready to make his ring walk about the time Manny Pacquiao arrived at Los Angeles International Airport on Philippine Airlines Flight 102. He’ll be occupying a cell at the Clark County Detention Center by the time Pacquiao makes his way to this gambling city for his June 9 fight with Timothy Bradley.

The two are seemingly destined never to be in the same spot at the same time. Certainly not in the ring, something Mayweather made clear Saturday night after taking on Miguel Cotto in a bruising fight that, if not his best, was certainly among his most exciting.

Olympic boxing legend Terry Spinks dies

Terry Spinks, who won boxing gold at the 1956 Olympics at the age of only 18, has died at the age of 74.

East Londoner Spinks, the youngest Briton to win an Olympic boxing gold medal, died at his Essex home after a long illness.

The baby-faced Spinks, who was an apprentice jockey before concentrating on boxing, won flyweight gold in Melbourne having been a late replacement.

Spinks, who clinched the British featherweight crown as a professional, won 41 of his 49 professional fights and was awarded an MBE in 2002.

Boxing: Dawson says Hopkins faked injury

Chad Dawson has accused Bernard Hopkins of faking an injury to escape defeat in their fight last October. Now he plans to prove his point when they meet in a light-heavyweight title rematch next week.

Hopkins, at 47 the oldest word champion yet, will again defend his WBC title in Atlantic City on April 28. Their previous fight ended in the second round when Dawson lifted Hopkins by a leg and slammed him to the canvas.

The fight was halted because Hopkins dislocated his left shoulder. Referee Pat Russell awarded the fight to Dawson, saying no foul was committed, but the result was changed to a no-decision and a title rematch ordered.

Amir Khan withdraws appeal of loss to Peterson

Former light welterweight world champion Amir Khan has withdrawn an appeal of last month’s controversial loss to Lamont Peterson.

Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KOs) won the fight on a split decision against Khan (26-2, 18 KOs) to claim the IBF and World Boxing Association belts.

The WBA, which also sanctioned the fight, ordered a rematch on January 12 after Khan complained of unfair judging.

“Team Khan have decided to withdraw their appeal and focus their full attention on Amir’s next fight,” Khan’s promoter Golden Boy Promotions said in a news release.

As party-goers mingled in a lobby of the Muhammad Ali Center before the party, Ali walked slowly to a second-floor balcony overlooking them. The crowd immediately began to clap, then broke into chants of "Ali! Ali!" followed by singing as Ali watched for about two minutes.

The three-time world heavyweight champion, who is battling Parkinson's disease, leaned against a rail and raised his right hand to wave to the crowd. Ali walked on his own but was at times assisted by his wife, Lonnie, and his sister-in-law. After the brief appearance, Ali went to his party.

WBA orders Rematch: Amir Khan vs Lamont Peterson

The World Boxing Association (WBA) vice-president, Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, has confirmed that the WBA has granted Amir Khan a rematch against Lamont Peterson.

Khan lost his WBA and IBF titles in a split-decision defeat in Peterson's home town on 10 December. The Englishman has vociferously complained about a number of issues, however, and has lobbied both governing bodies and the Washington DC commission to change the result to a no-contest and/or force the two men to fight again.

Amir Khan is in Islamabad as a guest at the ongoing Second Benazir Bhutto International Boxing Championship but the former world champion has confirmed that his lifelong dream of entering the ring in the country of his parents’ birth will force him to visit Pakistan as a contestant in the next championship.

“It will also help promote boxing in Pakistan. People are crazy about cricket here but there is a lot of talent when it comes to boxing. It needs a lot of support and I’m here to give it whatever it needs. I’m sure in a few years, Pakistan will become a tough country when it comes to amateur boxing.”

Female Boxers' Dilemma: What should they wear - skirt or shorts?

How would you like to watch female boxers fighting in the ring wearing skirts?

This is the hottest debated topic these days, as some members of the International Amateur Boxing Assn. — the governing body for the sport — are urging the boxers to don skirts instead of the baggy shorts they've been wearing.

"This is absurd," complained Patricia Manuel, a former national champion from Long Beach and an Olympic hopeful at 132 pounds. "To put fighters in skirts to label them as women is incredibly outdated. It seems to me sexist."

Although boxers from Poland and Romania donned skirts at the European Championships in October, few fighters appear to favor the change.
