Pakistan women cricket team beat Irish women at Doha by seven wickets in the PCB Qatar Women's 50-over Tri-Series. Pakistan's Javeria 51* was shining and helped chase the target of 92.

After Ireland chose to bat, none of their batsmen could make any contribution of note. Only opener Clare Shillington and No. 5 Isobel Joyce got into double digits - Joyce was left not out on 36 off 104 when Ireland were bowled out in the 49th over. Pakistan captain Sana Mir finished with the best figures of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 11 with her leg-spin.

The loss means Ireland, in order to make the final, will have to beat South Africa, and then hope Pakistan do the same.

Serena meets Sharapova in Doha Semis: Watch free live streaming | 16 February

Azarenka may lose no.1 ranking as Serena Williams closes in at Doha

Victoria Azarenka, the  reining world no.1 for the last one year may feel threatened as American Serena Williams is fast closing in and is just few points behind to take over the honour from Azarenka.

Victoria Azarenka from Belarus currently stands at world no.1 with 10,325 points, while the Serena Williams, currently world no.2, has 9,970 points - a difference of just 355 points.

After winning over the Russian lucky loser Daria Gavrilova 6-2, 6-1, Serena just needs to win two more matches this week to ensure she moves to the top of the world rankings on Monday.

Close by Serena at world no.3 is Russian Maria Sharapova with 9, 545 points, who is also doing good so far, winning all her matches so far. However she is likely to remain at no.3 slot even after Serena climbs to the top of the world. Sharapova has not been winning lately and she needs to work harder to remain in the run. Sharapova improved to a perfect 10-0 in Doha lifetime.

Red Devils in Qatar

The Red Devils have descended in Qatar to escape the freezing cold temperatures of Britain to train for a week ahead of the FA Cup fourth round match against Fullham.

Less than eight hours after the draw at Tottenham - a match which was very nearly postponed due to the deluge of snow that fell on London throughout the weekend - the Premier League leaders were on a plane heading for Qatar's Aspire Academy in Doha.

Seemingly without a care in the world, Robin van Persie, Nani, Rafael, Phil Jones and the rest of the squad, have taken up temporary residence at the Aspire Academy in Doha for a few days of warm weather training. They were not being watched by manager Sir Alex Ferguson, however. He was not in Qatar due to charity commitments in Britain.

It was snow that disturbed their match with Hotspurs and ended up in a 1-1 draw at the White Hart Lane. And despite Sir Alex's yelling and later disappointment that his side were not awarded a penalty.

But the question is whether the Red Devils will be able to adjust in Middle East desert temperatures and then go back to the freezing London temperatures and re-adjust again?

Pakistan beats India to lift Asian Hockey Champions Trophy

In what was a closely contested final of the Asian Champions Trophy (Hockey), Pakistan beat India 5-4 to lift the coveted trophy at Doha, Thursday today.

By the half time, India had a 2-1 edge over Pakistan but were pegged back by a resurgent Pakistan who raced to a 3-2 lead after the break. India managed to equalize twice as Pakistan extended their lead to 5-4.

The match though had a controversial moment when in the dying minutes, the Indian team while contesting a long corner walked off. The Indians while attacking the Pakistani goal missed a chance, but contended that there was enough contact for a penalty corner. The Korean referee though ruled otherwise. After a heated argument, the entire Indian team walked off the turf.

However, the drama soon ended as the Indians returned on to the field shortly afterwards. But Pakistan held on for the remaining couple of moments to clinch the cup.

Pakistan beat China in Asian Champions Trophy

After thrashing Oman 8-3 in its inaugral match, Pakistan Friday beat China 5-2 in the on going matches of the Asian Hockey Championship at Doha, Qatar at at the Al-Rayyan Hockey Stadium.

from Pakistan side, Abdul Haseem Khan and Waqas Sharif scored two goals each, while former captain Shakeel Abbasi scored one goal against their match with China.

Pakistan, the top seeds in the event, are regarded as the favourites to clinch the title in Doha as the team recently won the bronze medal in the elite eight-nation Champions Trophy in Australia.

Asian Hockey Championship 2012 - Doha, Qatar

The Asian Hockey Championship 2012 has started in Doha, Qatar with effect from 20 December 2012.

Six Asian hockey teams from China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan and India are participating in the tournament.

Pakistan's Shakeel Abbasi scored three goals against Oman

On the first day, Thursday 20 December, Pakistan thrashed Oman 8-3 in the opener. In the other matches, India beat China 4-0, while Malaysia beat Japan 4-1.

Pakistan's Danish in World Junior squash semis

Pakistan’s Danish Atlas Khan reached the semifinal of WSF Junior Championships 2012 in Doha on Tuesday.

In the semifinal, Danish will face number one seed Marwan El Shorbagy of Egypt who beat Nasir Iqbal in the quarter-final.

The 3/4 seed Danish beat the 9/16 seed Ahmad Al-Sarraj of Jordan 11-6, 11-8, 11-5 in 30 minutes.

Danish maintained his successful run with his greater experience playing against Ahmad Al-Saraj, who was playing on glass court for the first time in a quarterfinal match.

Defending champion Zvonareva quits WTA Qatar Open over injury

Defending champion Vera Zvonareva of Russia quit WTA Qatar Open with a left hip injury midway through her second round match against Romania's Monica Niculescu on Wednesday. 

Niculescu had taken the first set 7-5 and was leading 3-2 in the second when Zvonareva, the sixth seed, called it quits, the second time she was doing so in as many weeks because of the same problem.
