Toffees beat Red Devils for the first time in 21 years

What a day it was yesterday when the Devils became more red as the Toffees defeated them 1-0 and made history as it was their first win over Manchester United in 21 years.

The goal came at the Old Trafford in 86th minute from Oviedo who would remember having subdued the Devils in an otherwise goal-less match of the evening.

Costa Rican defender Bryan Oviedo struck four minutes from time to ensure Everton manager Roberto Martinez achieved a result at the first time of asking that avoided Moyes in his 11-year managerial career at Goodison Park.

At the end of a miserable defeat, Manchester United manager David Moyes said:

"I am disappointed to lose, that's the way the game goes sometimes. The game was tight we missed some opportunities to score and Everton took their opportunities.'

While a jubilant Everton manager Roberto Martinez remarked:

"I couldn't be prouder. We never felt inferior, we kept doing what we are good at. I have always felt this squad was capable of going anywhere and playing teams eye to eye. We have got a fantastic blend of experience and arrogant young players and that excites me. We need to carry on improving and prove we can perform like that anywhere in the league."

Manchester United Outscores Norwich 4-0

In a classic victory in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup at Old Trafford, the Red Devils outclassed and outscored the Canaries 4-0 last night.

The victory takes the Devils in the last eight of the championship.

The superb performance included two goals by Javier Hernandez - which were also the first to goals of the match, followed by one each by Jones and Fabio.

The victory extended United's unbeaten run to six games and, despite some indifferent performances during that time, there does seem to be some momentum building after a stuttering start to manager David Moyes's reign.

Commenting on Javier's superb performance, Manchester United assistant manger Steve Round said: "Javier Hernandez is such a good character. I don't think [his lack of first-team action this season] has fazed him at all. He is a really infectious character who loves to score goals."

Farewell 2-1 win by Manchester United for Sir Alex

Sir Alex Ferguson's last match as Manchester United manager brought him a memorable win with a late goal at Old Trafford Sunday yesterday.

When the Red Devils met the Swans, the opened the score in the 39th minute when Hernandez scored the first goal for the Devils in the 39th minute. But it was equalized in the 49th minute by Michu.

Thereafter, it seemed as Sir Alex's farewell will end with a drawn match - but perhaps this was not that something that the Red Devils wanted and continued their level best to win the match for their 71 years old out going manager.

And then just minutes away form the final whistle, Ferdinand struck in the 87th minute to bring a 2-1 victory over the Swansea and pay tribute to Sir Alex - who goes away much satisfied and happy with his farewell win and emotional tribute.

In fact Rio Ferdinand's first goal for five years gave Ferguson three points against Swansea City in his 723rd game at "The Theatre Of Dreams" following the announcement of his retirement after 26 years at the club.

And then there went away the Scot in an atmosphere of celebration and sentimentality, the mood was captured as Frank Sinatra's "My Way" and Nat King Cole's "Unforgettable" played out over the public address system in tribute to Ferguson.

Manchester City stuns Man United with a Pride Boosting 2-1 win

While the mood in Manchester was certainly in favour of the hot favourites Red Devils last night, the Manchester Derby came out surprisingly in the Citizens' favour, leaving Sir Alex and his lads stunned and pulled down.

The stunning 2-1 victory by the Citizens over the much-over confident Devils narrow down the gap to just 12 points on the points table.

Amid huge cheering crowds from both sides, the two teams entered the Old Trafford for a winner. But the first half despite attacks from both ends remained inconsclusive.

However, just after six minutes of play in the second half, James Milner gave the Citizens the lead in the 51st minute. However, surprisingly an own goal from City captain Vincent Kompany put United level.

The moment of rejoicing for the Citizens came in the 78th minute when Substitute Sergio Aguero's brilliant winner 12 minutes from time gave City their second successive victory at Old Trafford, one which will hurt United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who saw his side produce a subdued performance.

Although Red Devils had one goal to their 'credit,' it was none of their achievement - which means they actually lost 0-2 against the Citizens last night. Even Rooney's presence made no worthwhile improvement in United's score as the game came to an end in City's favoure.

The win last night gives Mancini rightly earned joy who now boasts that gap between the sides is not as wide as their points deficit suggests and on this evidence he is right. The Italian's argument, however, falls down on grounds of consistency as this was United first loss in 18 league games. But a second defeat in succession after they lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup.

Manchester United looking for QPR favour after 2-0 Swansea win

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was left looking for a favour from former Old Trafford striker Mark Hughes in a last-gasp bid to retain the Premier League title.
