Manchester United humbles QPR 2-0

Not much of a surprise as top of the table top Manchester United easily humbled the rock bottom team of Premier League the QPR 2-0 Saturday evening.

The first goal came in the 23rd minute by Rafeal. Then came a goal by Ryan Gigs, on his 999th senior appearance for club and country, in the closing moments of the match - 80th minute to be exact to ensure a sealing victory over the Rangers.

And as desired by Sir Alex Ferguson wants to open a 15-point gap at the top before rivals Man City, presently with 53 points, play on Sunday - they have the 15 points ascendancy over the Citizens.

A jubilant Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said after the match:

"It was a great result for us. It's another game away so it's important, we are 15 points ahead at the moment.

On the other hand, a rather depressed QPR boss Harry Redknapp said:

"This leaves us bottom today, but we won't be bottom at the end of the season. I still feel we'll get out of it. You probably think I'm mad, but I don't think I am. Everybody else has written us off, but I haven't. I still feel we have a chance."

As for the Devils, Wayne Rooney is set to miss out. Rooney sat out Monday's FA Cup win over Reading with a sinus problem and although he has now returned to training, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson does not expect the striker to have fully recovered for the Loftus Road encounter. Phil Jones (ankle) and Paul Scholes (knee) are also sidelined although Ferguson will still make changes, with Robin van Persie amongst those likely to be recalled.

QPR contain Hotspur in a goalless draw

What a match - if QPR from the rock bottom of the points table can contain the third placed Tottenham from scoring, it is a big achievement.

And this is what it was when the two met Saturday. If QPR could not score - that wasn't any news as what could you expect from a team sitting nat the 20th position on the points table.

But when their defenders spoiled every effort by the Spurs and left them goalless against them when the final whistle blew, that was a news making whistle as it left Hotspur high and dry without a goal against QPR.

From time to time they would go through some counter-attacking motions, and in the 11th minute Shaun Wright-Phillips actually forced a drive which was deflected for a corner. 

But, by and large they simply lined up behind the ball, denied Spurs their essential space and placed survival at the top of their priorities.

In fairness, they were exceedingly efficient. The defenders understood their roles, while in midfield the strength of Stephane Mbia was constantly influential.

QPR shock Chelsea with a 1-0 Blow

The Blues and Rafa must have had the shock of the New Year when the Rangers, seated at the rock bottom of the points table with mere 13 points, won over them with the lone goal of the match Wednesday at the Stamford Bridge.

Ironically, the Rangers' goal was struck 12 minutes from time by former Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips - hurting Blue more than had it been scored by someone else.

The moment the goal was scored, there were loud roar from the Rangers' fans at the Stamford Bridge while the Blue fans wore a look of disbelief and sadness. This felt more like an FA Cup shock than QPR’s second Barclays Premier League victory of the season.

And what about poor Rafa who is still struggling to make his presence felt and accepted as the interim manager? Naturally he looked dumb for he had rested several key men for the west London derby. In fact the Blues consisted of a Capital One Cup team - which although was good enough for the QPR without a win since they beat Stoke on November 19, 2011, but sometimes over confidence kills.

And that is what happened yesterday. The match leaves Chelsea at fourth position below the Hotspurs - and beware, Everton with 36 points at 5th position is not that far.

Manchester United beat QPR 3-1 at Old Trafford

A goalless first half followed and goals-full second half when Manchester United traveled to Old Trafford to play their Premier League match against the Queens Park Rangers.

QP Rangers who badly needed a win over the visitors, were just too helpless against the resilient Man Utd. Although the first goal came for the QPR in the 52nd minute by Mackie, there were goals after goal by the visitors.

The equalizer came in the 64th minute by Evans, followed by two winners: a goal each by Fletcher in the 68th minute and four minutes later by Hernandez in the 72nd minute.

The win takes the Man Utd to the table top with 30 points, overtaking the Citizens with 28 points. QPR continues to sit at the bottom on 20th position with just four points as before.

Mark Hughes continues to be in-charge of QPR

Mark Hughes of the Queens Park Ranger is to be continuing in-charge of the QPR. The news came up after Hughes' meeting with Philip Beard, the QPR chief executive.

The news negated earlier reports of Hughes' sacking on Monday. Even otherwise, Hughes has not done much to improve QPR situation, as presently QPR sits at the bottom of the points table - that is on 20th position with just four points.

Manchester City are Champions

Manchester City scored twice in stoppage time to be crowned champions for the first time in 44 years as they beat Queen's Park Rangers 3-3 to win the Premier League on goal difference from Manchester United.

In scenes of near bedlam, City looked to be suffering a dramatic collapse as QPR - safe after Stoke City drew with Bolton - held on to an unlikely advantage with United leading at Sunderland.

The Etihad was a sky-blue explosion of joy and relief in an outpouring of 44 years of frustration as Aguero wheeled his shirt above his head in celebration and Mancini, who cut an increasingly frantic figure as time ran out, raced on to the pitch - accompanied by backroom staff including Brian Kidd and David Platt - in ecstasy.

Manchester United win over Swansea levels on points with Manchester City

First-half goals by Paul Scholes and Ashley Young earned a comfortable win over Swansea as Manchester United moved level on points with Manchester City - but it could not disguise a feeling of helplessness at Old Trafford.

Although only goal difference separates the top two, the championship will be City's for the first time in 44 years so long as Roberto Mancini's side can match United's result on the final day of the season. City will face QPR at home, having won all but one of their 18 Premier League matches at the Etihad Stadium, while United travel to Sunderland.

And with United only managing the same margin of victory as City had earlier recorded at Newcastle, Sir Alex Ferguson's men trail their "noisy neighbours" by eight goals.

Manchester United looking for QPR favour after 2-0 Swansea win

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was left looking for a favour from former Old Trafford striker Mark Hughes in a last-gasp bid to retain the Premier League title.

Although United beat Swansea 2-0 at Old Trafford here on Sunday they head into the final round of matches on May 13 behind leaders Manchester City, 2-0 winners over Newcastle, on goal difference.

Premier League: Chelsea beat QPR 6 - 1

BOSS Roberto di Matteo admitted even he was stunned by Chelsea’s ruthless display against QPR after their European exertions in midweek.

Just five days after sealing a spot in the Champions League Final with an amazing comeback at Barcelona, the Blues battered QPR to boost their bid to qualify for next season’s tournament.

It moved them within a point of a top-four spot in the Premier League ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Newcastle.

Daniel Sturridge got the Blues off to the perfect start with a goal in 45 seconds and Nou Camp sinner John Terry made it 2-0 with a 13th-minute header.

Fernando Torres then followed up his heroics in Spain with a hat-trick before Florent Malouda made it 6-0 and Djibril Cisse fired a late reply for the Rs.
