Bale bids farewell to Spurs and joins Real Madrid for £85m - a world record deal

Well do not be surprised as Real Madrid has finally struck a deal with Gareth Bale of Spurs to play for them for £85m - a world record deal, never struck before.

The Wales star has agreed a £300,000 per week, six-year deal after sealing an £85.3m (100m euros) move which eclipses the £80m Real paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

Commenting on his deal with Real Madrid, 24-year-old said:

"I have had six very happy years at Tottenham but it's the right time to say goodbye." 

"I am now looking forward to the next exciting chapter in my life, playing football for Real Madrid."

Bale will have a medical and then be presented to the Real Madrid fans at the Bernabeu at 12:00 BST on Monday before speaking at a media conference.

World record for Pakistan hockey players - Most passes in one minute

The Pakistan Hockey, though has had a miserable spell of defeats at international tournaments, has shown something astonishing that goes down in the book of world records - the Guinnese Book of World Re4cord.

The demo was held at the National Hockey Stadium, Lahore on Tuesday, in which the players gathered 43 passes in one minute and sealing a world record.

Officials representing the Guinness Book of World Record were present on the occasion and confirmed that a world record of most passes in one minute had indeed been made.

Already Sohail Abbas of Pakistan holds the current world record – of 338 goals – for most international goals scored by a player in the history of international field hockey.

So many congrats to Pakistan Hockey - but at the same time a very demoralizing display against India for losing to India 1-3 in the ongoing Azlan Shah Hockey tournament. We wish that this demo that goes down in history books is also demonstrated in international events to revive the glory that was once the special honour of Pakistan Hockey.

Zambia claims Chitalu's 107 goals is the world record - not Messi's 88

While the football world celebrates Lionel Messi's world record of 88 goals in a calendar year, breaking German Mueller's 85 in 1972, there happens to be someone with over 100 goals who has not been honoured so far.

Well time will tell whether the recent Zambian claim is correct or otherwise of their player and striker Godfrey Chitalu. But the question remains that when German striker Mueller made headlines in 1972, why did not Zambia objected to it as their claims of 107 goals also pertain to 1972 - the same year attributed to Mueller's world record.

However the Zambian spokesman asserts:

"We want to make it very clear that it is not a question of authenticating, or trying to verify or see if he actually scored the goals - that is not in question." 

"What is in question now is why has he not been recognized, and that is what we are looking at now."

The claim is interesting and we wait and see how FIFA reacts to its after sifting its archives.

Lionel Messi breaks Mueller's 1972 World Record of Most Goals in a Calandar Year

When Messi was injured during the Barca duel with Benfica on Wednesday, and was carted out of the arena on a stretcher, the morale of Messi's fans and well wishers plummeted for they thought that Messi just a goal short of the German Gerd Mueller of 1972 world record of 85 goals in a calendar year was there to stay.

But for 25 years old Messi, the legend who already broken Pelé’s record of 75 goals, set in 1958, the injury was not to deter him to break the historical Mueller barrier.

He was injured last Wednesday. His left knee took the weight of Benfica’s goalkeeper, Artur, in a challenge. As Messi was carted away by the medics, the distress of missing perhaps several months was writ large across his face. When tests proved nothing was broken, merely extensively bruised, Messi did as Messi invariably does. He demonstrated that impulse, that absolute determination, to play the next game.

And there he was scoring the two need goals against Real Betis on Sunday which Barcelona won 2-1: The first to equalize the Mueller's record and the second to break the barrier and become the top goal scorer in the history of the football in  a calendar year.

Three-time World Player of the Year Messi's attempt to break German Mueller's record looked set to falter after he was carried off on a stretcher during Barcelona's Champions League group game draw with Benfica on Wednesday.

Messi is now favourite to claim a fourth FIFA World Player of the Year award after making the three-man shortlist which also includes Barcelona team-mate Andres Iniesta and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi's knee injury may mess up with his world record pursuits

Legendary Lionel Messi who has already broken Pele's record of 75 goals and is now in pursuit of leveling or even breaking the 85 goals record, scored in a calendar year, by German striker Gerd Muller has his time running out as the deadline finishes December 31.

Messi has already scored 84 goals this year and is just one goal short of equaling the present world record, made in 1972.

But it seems less likely as his injuries may mess up with Messi'd pursuit of leveling the record of most goals in a calendar year. In the last match against Benfica, Messi was called in the second half when 30 minutes remained, and the crowds cheered for him.

But with his present injuries, and  with a few minutes left to play, Messi stepped away from a lunging keeper to chip the ball towards goal and fell to the ground clutching his knee. Messi was later evacuated out of the field on a stretcher.

Would he be able to recover before his next match and score at least one goal? We wish him luck!!

Paralympics 2012: Britain's Ellie smashes old record of 400 metres freestyle by five seconds

Britain's 17 years old Ellie smashed old record by five seconds to defend her Paralympics title of 400 metres freestyle in a time of 5:19.17

Ellie broke the previous record held by the U.S. swimmer Victoria Arle.

Ellie, who is afflicted by dwarfism, was already the poster girl of the Games, following her two gold medals four years ago as the youngest British athlete in Beijing.

Bolt wins his third gold - and makes world record

After winning 100M and 200M races for the consecutive second time, Jamaica's Usain Bolt  wins his third gold and makes a new world record.

The electronic tape stopped at 36.84 sec, a number never before seen in the 4x100m relay - something that Jamaicans quartet did last time at Olympics athletics.

Jamica's Usain St. Leo Bolt beat the previous Olympic record of 9.69 100 metres set by him in Beijing Olympics 2008 and clocked 9.63 seconds to win his second gold at London Olympics Sunday. The victory came one day before Jamaica celebrates its 50th year of independence.

Reigning world champion and Bolt's training partner and fellow Jamaican, Yohan Blake, finished second in 9.75. American Justin Gatlin took bronze in 9.79.

Bolt holds the World Record of 9.58 seconds. Usain Bolt now holds three Olympics records, two individually (100 and 200 meters) and one with the Jamaican 4 x 100m relay team.

Dana Vollmer sets World Record: Wins Olympic Gold In 100M Butterfly

Dana Vollmer of the United States set a world record to win the 100-meter butterfly at the London Olympics on Sunday.

Vollmer was third at the turn and hit the wall in 55.98 seconds to shave 0.08 off the previous mark set by Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden at the 2009 world championships in Rome.

Vollmer had set an Olympic record in Saturday morning's heats. She missed qualifying for the 2008 Beijing Games.

Lu Ying of China touched second in 56.87 and Alicia Coutts of Australia finished third in 56.94.

Legally Blind Archer Breaks First World Record of the Olympics

As the world braces for the opening ceremony of the London Olympics, the Robin Hoods have already started showing their archery skills at the London Olympics.

And what is amazing is that the first world record has fallen at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and it was legally blind South Korean archer Im Dong-hyun who did it in the ranking round for men's individual archery.

Im fired a score of 699 with his 72 arrows.

Archers get 10 points for hitting the bulls-eye, so Im earned dropped just 21 points out of a possible 720. According to the Telegraph, the previous record was 696.

Mighty Mo Retains European 5,000m title in Helsinki

Mo Farah made history when he became the first man to retain the 5,000 metres title at the  European Championships.

The feat defied legendary winners of the title such as Emil Zatopek and Vladimir Kuts but Farah did it with brutal effectiveness in the iconic setting of an Olympic Stadium built the same year the championships began 78 years ago.

Farah has improved so much since he won the title in Barcelona two years ago that Europe is no longer big enough to contain his talent. He is a global star, an Olympic champion in the making, and he dismissed the opposition with a blistering burst over the last lap.

Moving 'aboard' Skateboard to set world record at 130 kmph

There is no dearth of adventurers who take the life threatening risks to make world records.

One such person is Mischo Erban, who on a hilly road with 12% gradient dared to break his own world record on skateboard and get his name entered into the Guinness Book of Records.

The news, though dates back to October 2010, but I thought of sharing it for those who missed to see it earlier.

The 28 years old Mischo Erban, who had earlier set a record of moving downhill on skateboard at a speed of 114 kmph, broke his own very record and achieved a speed of 130 kmph, in fact 130.08 kmph to be exact or 80.83 mph. Watch the video below:

Erban broke the record in the hills of Qubec, canada and watching the video one is really awe stricken by his descending speed on the curved hiily roads.

No wonder world records are set by those who dare and have the nerves and courage to undertake such feats. What do you say?

Track Cycling World Championships in Melbourne: Three world records shatter at Worlds meet

Defending champion Anna Meares of Australia set the first of three world records in qualifying on the second day of the Track Cycling World Championships yesterday.

Meares’ time of 10.782 seconds in the flying 200m at the Hisense Arena easily eclipsed the old mark of 10.793 set by Lithuania’s Simona Krupeckaite in Moscow in 2010.

The Australian women’s team pursuit squad of Josephine Tomic, Melissa Hoskins and Annette Edmondson broke the second record of the day with a time of 3 minutes, 17.053 seconds to better the mark of 3:18.148 set by Britain at February’s track world cup in London.

Virendar Sehwag today smashed a stunning 219 runs against West Indies at Indore breaking record of his fellow counterpart Sachin Tendulkar who made 200*  against South Africa some time back.

India finally won the match by 153 runs.
