Junaid rips apart Lankan batting line on first day - first test at Abu Dhabi

Junaid rejoices a wicket with team mates [Photo AFP]

The first day of the first test match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka was treat to watch - the day saw Pakistan's Junaid ripping apart the Lankan batting line and at the end of the day he had bagged five wickets for 58 with four maiden overs.

Pakistan, winning the toss, elected to field. And Karunaratne was first to succumb to Junaid Khan at 38 when he was caught by Asad Shafiq. Thereafter it was Bhatti and Junaid sending the Lankan batsmen one by one. Herath was Junaid's last victim who went out for a duck.

The ruthless bowling of Junaid(5/58), Bhatti(3/65) and Ajmal(2/32) cost very dearly to the opposing camp at the entire team was back in the pavilion for mere 204 runs. Mathews was the only batsmen who stood on the crease until dislodged by Saeed Ajmal at 91. Other than Mathews and Karunaratne, none could cross 20s.

Coming to bat, Pakistan had made 46 at the loss of Khurram Manzoor who was run out at 21 (Mathews/†HAPW Jayawardene). Ahmed Shehzad was not out at the stumps and was scored 25.

Pakistan resumes its second day of play today at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi (neutral venue).

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka: First Test Match at Abu Dhabi | Watch Free Live Streaming - 31 December 2013 - 4 January 2014

Who will win the 3-test matches trophy - New year will tell
On the last day of the year 2013, Pakistan seems all set for the first test match, part of the three test matches series, against Sri Lanka at Abu Dhabi starting 31 December 2013.

Pakistan having won the 5-matches ODI series 3-2, feel confident in taking over the Islanders from the Indian Ocean - a feeling that has come from the rather satisfactory perfomance of the batsmen, who otherwise have been unpredictable in the past.

Sri Lanka would be at odds at playing a test match since they haven't played any since March 2013. It may take sometime for them to get into test match mindset from the ODIs they have been playing.

Pakistan, beside its performing batsmen, has a strong and venomous bowling team. No bowler in Sri Lanka's 16-man squad is Junaid Khan's equal, and although Umar Gul has a mediocre record against Sri Lanka, the reverse-swing he gleans on dry pitches may prove potent against the visitors' inexperienced middle order. Saeed Ajmal's contest with Rangana Herath will be an exciting subplot in the series.

In comparison, Suranga Lakmal has never taken more than four wickets in a match and averages 65.75, while Shaminda Eranga has been far from his best in domestic cricket over the past two months.

The probable opposing teams for the first test match at Abu Dhabi may be as under:

Pakistan: 1 Khurram Manzoor, 2 Shan Masood, 3 Mohammad Hafeez/Azhar Ali, 4 Younis Khan, 5 Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), 6 Asad Shafiq, 7 Adnan Akmal (wk), 8 Abdur Rehman/ Rahat Ali/ Mohammad Talha, 9 Umar Gul, 10. Saeed Ajmal, 11. Junaid Khan

Sri Lanka: 1 Dimuth Karunaratne, 2 Kaushal Silva, 3 Kumar Sangakkara, 4. Mahela Jayawardene, 5. Lahiru Thirimanne/ Prasanna Jayawardene, 6. Angelo Mathews (capt), 7. Dinesh Chandimal (wk), 8. Sachithra Senanayake/Dilruwan Perera, 9 Suranga Lakmal, 10 Rangana Herath, 11 Shaminda Eranga/Nuwan Pradeep

The first match is scheduled for Dec 31, 2013 - Jan 4, 2014 daily at (10:00 local | 06:00 GMT | 11:00 PKT)

Pakistan - Sri Lanka: 5th ODI | Watch Free Live Streaming - 27 December

Although Pakistan has won the 5-ODI matches series 3-1, and there is no thrill left in the series, yet it will be a last 'practice match' for Pakistan before the start of the test series, when it meets Sri Lanka at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi Friday afternoon today.

However, for the Islanders a win will be a morale booster for its team which has lost the series. This will provide a practice run for its bowlers, who generally failed to contain Pakistan as Lasith Malinga went wicket-less for the second time in the series and Nuwan Kulasekara was uncharacteristically wayward in the Christmas Day match.

Pakistan's Shahid Afridi has flown back to Pakistan early due to personal reasons, but in any case, Pakistan may be tempted to trial young players in the dead rubber. Seam bowler Anwar Ali has been sitting on the sidelines for the whole series, as has left-handed batsman Haris Sohail. They may get a game tomorrow if Pakistan choose to rest key Test players, with the Test series starting on Tuesday.

Probable Opposing Teams:
Pakistan squad
Misbah-ul-Haq*, Abdur Rehman, Ahmed Shehzad, Anwar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Bilawal Bhatti, Haris Sohail, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Hafeez, Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi, Sharjeel Khan, Sohaib Maqsood, Sohail Tanvir, Umar Akmal†, Umar Gul

Sri Lanka squad
AD Mathews*, LD Chandimal, TM Dilshan, FDM Karunaratne, KMDN Kulasekara, RAS Lakmal, SL Malinga, BAW Mendis, MDKJ Perera†, NLTC Perera, S Prasanna, SMA Priyanjan, KC Sangakkara†, SMSM Senanayake, HDRL Thirimanne, KDK Vithanage

Umpires CB Gaffaney and REJ Martinesz

The match is scheduled for Friday, December 27, 2013 at  Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi at 1500 local (1100 GMT)

Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 8 Wickets - wins ODI series 3-1

Pakistan's Saeed Ajmal (left) and Gul (centre) sent back Sri Lanka for just 225 - Hafeez and Sohaib (right) sealed the victory for Pakistan [Photos AFP]

This was the day that Pakistan was waiting for - to beat the Sri Lanka cricket team in the 5-ODI machetes series in UAE last night. Having beaten the Islanders from the Indian Ocean twice before, Pakistan finally sealed the series with yet another impressive win and captured the series 3-1 at Abu Dhabi.

Sri Lanka was back in the pavilion for 225 (Priyanjan 74, Sangakkara 51) in l48.5 overs. It was Priyanjan first half century right on his debue appearance, while Sangakkara hit his 83rd. Pakistan's Ajmal sent back four for 39 and Umer Gul three for 37.

In fact Umer Gul claimed first three victims of the match which destabilised the Islanders - his first wicket came off his fourth ball.

Coming to bat, Hafeez made the difference yet again after his 140 in the third ODI - this time he hit impressive 113 and took Pakistan to victory for the loss of Sharjeel (13) and Shehzad (44). At the close of the match Hafeez was at 113 and his supporting batsman Sohaib at 46.

Hafeez was rightly chosen to be the player of the match.

Pakistan plays 4th ODI for a Series Win against Sri Lanka at Abu Dhabi | Watch Free Live Streaming - 25 December

Pakistan, though in a commanding position of 2-1 in a five ODIs series, would very much like to win today's 4th ODI at Abu Dhabi against Sri Lanka to capture the series.

Pakistan has already came winning the ODI series against the South Africans recently and seem in high spirits  If their batsmen play responsible again at Abu Dhabi during their 4th ODI, their chances seem quite bright. The onus of winning the series would greatly lie on Hafeez, who scored mighty 140 in the 3rd ODI, though was dropped at 26. Sharjeel, Shehzad, Akmal and Afridi too need to play responsibly.

As for bowling, Umer Gul, who returned to Pakistan team after a nine-months absence due to injury, mad his presence felt right away as he claimed the first two and the last wicket of the match and his 3/19  was instrumental in destabilising the Islanders.

Junaid, Ajmal and Afridi are doing just superb - however, it seems that Bilawal Bhatti is a weak link the Pakistan attack, and there may be a case for bringing Anwar Ali in.

Pakistan's Misbah has already broken Kohli's record - If he scores 60 more runs in the next two matches, he will have had a more prolific ODI year than any batsman has managed since 2007, and the best aggregate in a non-World Cup year since 2000.

As for the Lankans, they seem to have learned some valuable lessons in the series. In a brave new ODI world where 300 is the old 250 and the mandatory Powerplay induces caution, they cannot hope to restrict the opposition without taking wickets.

Probable Opposing Teams:
Pakistan squad
1 Ahmed Shehzad, 2 Sharjeel Khan, 3 Mohammad Hafeez, 4 Sohaib Maqsood, 5 Misbah-ul- Haq (capt), 6 Umar Akmal, 7 Shahid Afridi, 8 Bilawal Bhatti/ Anwar Ali, 9 Umar Gul, 10. Saeed Ajmal, 11. Junaid Khan

Sri Lanka squad
1 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 2 Kusal Perera 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Dinesh Chandimal, 5. Angelo Mathews (capt), 6. Dimuth Karunaratne/Ashan Priyanjan/Kithuruwan Vithanage, 7. Thisara Perera 8. Seekkuge Prasanna, 9 Nuwan Kulasekara, 10. Sachithra Senanayake, 11. Lasith Malinga

The match is scheduled for Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at  Abu Dhabi at 1500 local (1100 GMT)

South Africa beats Pakistan in 4th ODI - wins series 3-1

Quinton de Kock's maiden century ensured South Africa's victory

Pakistan's batting line once again crumbled in the crucial 4th ODI at Sheikh Zayed Stadium Abu Dhabi Friday when it was beaten by the South Africa by 28 runs.

South Africa's Dale Steyn took a heavy toll of the leading Pakistani batsmen and perfected his career best record for 5-25.

Batting first, South Africa's Quinton de Kock smashed his maiden century. Left-handed opening batsman de Kock hit 112 to anchor South Africa to series-best total of 266-5.

From Pakistan's side, debutant Sohaib Maqsood kept Pakistan in the hunt with 56 off 54 balls before Steyn’s burst saw Pakistan losing its last five wickets for just 10 runs.

The last match of the series will be played at Sharjah on Monday - a match which is now being dubbed as a dead rubber.

Pakistan v South Africa: Crucial 4th ODI - Abu Dhabi | Watch Free Live Streaming - 8 Nov

Pakistan meets South Africa the crucial fourth ODI at Sheikh Zayed Stadium Abu Dhabi Friday afternoon today in a must-win match, before the series wraps up in Sharjah on November 11.

While the South Africans have a strong batting line, specially after the return of Hashim Amla, Pakistan suffers from its chronic problem of irresponsible batsmen who crumble like pack of cards whenever a challenge is faced.

The third ODI was terrible example of poor batting line of Pakistan. Chasing a target of 260, Pakistani top order batsmen could score only 116 for seven. It was only the two bowlers, Wahab Riaz and Sohail Tanvir, who added valuable 61 runs and taking the score to a face saving 191 - but what more can you expect from bowlers. The bowled well but batsmen always failed them.

"It's the same old story," Misbah said. "I think we need to think about our batting if we want to save the series. Our batsmen get starts but are not able to convert them into big scores, and we all have to think that 20s and 30s are not going to win matches for us."

Although Misbah is holding on good and playing well, he seems to have chosen a weak team - as he always does. Afridi is bowling well but his batting is agaion as unpredicatable as ever - coming back to pavilion with a long face.

Unless Pakistan's batting line performs, it is more than likely that the opposing camp will be able to dominate the series. Like Saeed Ajmal, they will have to be beware of Imran Tahir, whose 4-53 dismantled their ace batsmen.

Squads:
Pakistan: Misbah-ul-Haq*, Abdur Rehman, Ahmed Shehzad, Asad Shafiq, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Irfan, Nasir Jamshed, Saeed Ajmal, Sarfraz Ahmed†, Shahid Afridi, Sohaib Maqsood, Sohail Tanvir, Umar Akmal†, Umar Amin, Wahab Riaz

South Africa: AB de Villiers*†, HM Amla, H Davids, Q de Kock†, JP Duminy, F du Plessis, Imran Tahir, R McLaren, DA Miller, M Morkel, WD Parnell, RJ Peterson, VD Philander, DW Steyn, LL Tsotsobe

Umpires Ahsan Raza and SJ Davis

Pakistan vs South Africa: A tit for tat 3rd ODI win for South Africa

South Africa's Imran Tahir celebrates his wicket with Villiers
Having levelled the five ODI series 1-1, Pakistan met South Africa Wednesday for the third ODI at Sheikh Zayed Stadium Abu Dhabi and met a charged Imran Tahir who wrecked their batting line to bring victory to South Africa.

Batting first, South Africa gave a tall target of 260 to Pakistan to chase. And as is usual with Pakistan cricket team, their batting line performed miserably to chase the target.  Jean-Paul Duminy and Faf du Plessis scored half centuries to take the target to 260.

When it came to Pakistan to bat, South African leg spinner Imran Tahir took a heavy toll of the Pakistani batsmen and took four wickets for 53 to dismantle the opposing camp. Pakistan was all out for 191 in 44.3 and lost the match by 68 runs.

It was rather interesting to see tail ender bowlers like Wahab Riaz and Souhail Tanvir standing on the crease and playing more responsibly than the ace batsmen. Wahab Riaz, who top-scored with 33, added 61 for the eighth wicket with Sohail Tanvir (31)- but their stand could not undo the bad spell the batsmen had left behind earlier.

Although Leg-spinner Shahid Afridi (2-40) derailed the innings by dismissing De Kock and Du Plessis in quick succession, both stumped, but he could not bat well and was back in pavilion for mere six runs. Paceman Mohammad Irfan finished with 3-45 in his 10 overs.

The stunning win gives South Africa a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

Both teams will meet again at the same venue on Friday before the series is rounded off in Sharjah on Monday.

Pakistan v South Africa: 3rd ODI - Abu Dhabi | Watch Free Live Streaming - 6 Nov

Pakistan meets South Africa for their 3rd ODI at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi Wednesday today having levelled the 5-ODI series 1-1.

South Africans get their morale boosted as Hashim Amla joins back after missing the first two ODIs as otherwise its limited-overs batsmen have failed to adapt to the UAE conditions, and look lost against Pakistan's spinners.

Ppakistan's Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Hafeez all will continue to addcontinuing to cause problems, one of AB de Villiers, JP Duminy or Faf du Plessis need to step up.

Pakistan too is suffering due to faltering in the middle. Umar Amin and Umar Akmal are yet to make meaningful contributions. Likewise, Nasir Jamshed's continual failings at the top may prompt an experimentation with Sohaib Maqsood, while Wahab Riaz's place in the team will also be questioned.

Pakistan stuns World No.1 South Africa with Seven Wickets defeat

Pakistan's Saeed Ajmal who bagged five wickets in the first test
The world no.1 South Africa was stunned when it was beaten by Pakistan by seven wickets in the first test match at Abu Dhabi.

This was South Africa's first defeat after a long unbeaten spree of fifteen test matches. Some are of the opinion that South Africa has been winning all these test matches on its own home pitches - the moment it came out of the the much acclimatised homely environment  it had the taste of a defeat it has long since forgotten.

Pakistan displayed a superb play in in the first innings of 443 with a ton by Manzoor (146) and Misbah (100), which put the South Africans completely out of their form who having scored 249 in the first innings were all back in pavilion for 232 in the second innings - giving a target of FORTY runs to chase to Pakistan on the fourth day of the first test match - which Pakistan achieved at the loss of three wickets (45/3) with two sixes from captain Misbah.

Pakistan's ace spinner Saeed Ajmal took six wickets in the test match followed by five by test deutante Baber and four by Junaid Khan.

Pakistan's Khurram Manzoor was declared as the Player of the match for his remarkable 146 in the first innings.

Hashim Amla was the only South African to score a century in the first innings (118), followed lcosely by Villiers (90) in the second innings.

The second test match is scheduled from 23-27 October at Abu Dhabi.

Djokovic vs Ferrer: Watch Live Free Streaming | Mubadala World Tennis Championship Abu Dhabi - 28 December 2012

The first day of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship Abu Dhabi witnessed a poor performance by Olympic and US Open champion Andy Murray, ahead of the Australian Open 2013, succumbing to world no.9 Serbian Janko Tipsarevic Thursday last night 6-3 6-4.

Djokovic vs Ferrer

Today in the two matches planned for the day, world no.1 Serbian Novak Djokovic meets world no.5 Spaniard David Ferrer at Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi.

The match today recalls the final of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship 2011 when both Djokovic and Ferrer met to play the final. Djokovic had advanced into the final beating Roger Federer and Ferrer ousted two-time defending champion Rafael Nadal. However, Ferrer could not muster enough power to face Djokovic, paving for a simple 6–2, 6–1 victory for the Serbian.

Both players are in form this year, having lost just one of the last ten matches played. In all Djokovic and Ferrer have played 15 matches, with Djokovic having a winning edge over the Spaniard 10-5. They last met at US Open 2012 when Djokovic beat Ferrer in the semi finals 2-6 6-1 6-4 6-2.

What comes of today's match can be anyone's guess unless there is a mishap like that of Murray yesterday.

The Mubadala World Tennis Championship match between Djokovic - Ferrer is scheduled for Friday, 28 December 2012 at 11:00 GMT at Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi.

Although, Michael Hussey scored hefty 61, Pakistan's ace spinner Saeed Ajmal took a heavy toll of ther Aussies batsmen and dispatched 4 for 32 to the pavilion, while paceman Junaid Khan took 3-52.

England takes Twenty20 series over Pakistan

The last T20 match between Pakistan and England at Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zyed International stadium was awesome, interesting and hair-raising in the final overs of the play Monday.

Electing to bat, England was contained by Pakistan's bowlers and they could only give a target of 130 to Pakistan to follow. Except for Pietersen's 62 (not out), no other Englishman could withstand the Pakistan's bowlers onslaught. Saeed Ajmal bagged four wickets for 23.

When it came to Pakistan, all seemed to be going well till the 18th over. Pakistan was well poised to win with 4-107 with 23 needed off the last three overs and 17 off the remaining two. But then the resilience and superb bowling performance from England did its magic. Dernbach and Broad took the three important important wickets, Misbah being the last to be drastically clean bowled to end the game. Pakistan lost by 5 runs. Afridi was run out for 3.

KP Pietersen (England) rightly claimed both titles -  Player of the match  and  Player of the series for his outstanding performance as a batsman.

England squad proudly flies back after clinching both ODI and T20 trophies. Pakistan comes back with the Test Series trophy, but with a heavy heart of losing miserably the other two trophies. England does deserve a good pat for their superb performance, even after lost the test series - which give them more confidence to win. On the other hand, Pakistan's over confidence and poor batting made them lose the ODIs and T20s.

The match ended England's long tour of the United Arab Emirates who now fly to Sri Lanka in two week's time ahead of their two-Test series, while Pakistan are next in action in the Asia Cup, which begins on March 11.

Pakistan's managers, selectors, trainers and captains will now have to do a lot of homework, chalking out their future strategy, besides training their batsman who are continuously failing in the limited over matches.
