Nadal and Serena win over Rome

Sunday was the lucky day for the world no.5 Rafael Nadal and world no.1 Serena Williams when the lifted the coveted Roman trophoes at the end of the Italian Open Tennis.

Nadal, the five time Roman champion, took just 58 minutes to beat world no.3 Roger Federer to win his 30th career encounter with the Swiss. Nadal beat Fedrer 6-1 6-3 at Rome's Foro Italico.

It may be recalled that it was here in 2006 that Rafael Nadal recovered from the brink of defeat 2-4 against Roger Federer to capture the Rome Masters and equal the record for consecutive wins on clay. Nadal won 6-7 (0-7) 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 2-6 7-6 (7-5) in a thrilling final that lasted over five years.

But this year, it was just 68 minutes to previal upon Federer.

Nadal now heads to the French Open eyeing an Open-era record eighth title at Roland Garros.

In the women's single event, it was Serena Williams who dominated the match and beat third seeded Victoria Azarenka, the former long time world no.1 from Belarus, 6-1, 6-3.

It was Serena's fourth consecutive win this year. Serena who is 31 years now, but shows no signs of aging and sapping vigour and form. She now heads to Paris as a strong favourite to win the title at Roland Garros for only the second time.

The two semis played today paved way for the world no.3 Roger Federer and world no.5 Rafael Nadal to play the Italian Open final Sunday tomorrow.

Roger Federer beat French Benoit Paire 7(7)-6(5), 6-4 while Nadal beat Tomas Berdych 6-2, 6-4.

In the women single category, world no.1 American Serena Williams beat Simona Halep 6-3, 6-0. In the second semi final Victoria Azarenka beat Italian Sara Errani 6-0, 7-5 to qualify for the final and ply against Serena Williams.

Berdych thouh has shown shine and game, has recently lost four of the ten matches he played so fae, while NAdal has won all of his ten matches.

Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic Rome 2012 FINAL - FULL MATCH [HD Video]

While the second round matches are in progress at Wimbledon 2012, let me share a memorable match and final between two prominent tennis stars.

The final of ATP Rome was played between the World no.1 Serbian Novak Djokovic and Spaniard Rafael Nadal on its red clay. Novak Djokovic was to defend his title he earned in 2011, while Nadal wanted to avenge the loss on the blue clay of Madrid previously. And revenge he did take as he won the championship beating defending champion Djokovic 7-5, 6-3.

Although, the final of Internazionali BNL d'Italia - Rome, Italy was scheduled for Sunday 20th May at 14:00 GMT, however due to rain at Rome Sunday afternoon, the match was re-scheduled for Monday, 21 May at 10:00 GMT

Nadal conquers Rome

World No.3 defending champion Spaniard Rafael Nadal did not find much difficulty in subduing the world no.1 Serbian Novak Djokovic 7-5, 6-3 to conquer Rome Monday.

The match which was initially planned for Sunday was postponed and re-schedule for Monday due to heavy downpour on Sunday.

With the win today, Nadal hits a hatrick of conquering the ATP Rome Masters title for the third consecutive time. This is also Nadal's seventh win at Rome, as he had eariler on won four Rome titles in succession from 2005-2008.

In 2009, Swiss Roger Federer won the Rome title after beating Robin Söderling 6-1, 7-6, 6-4. Nadal again won the 2010 title beating Robin Söderling 6-4, 6-2, 6-4. Nadal then went on to win the 2011 title beating Roger Federer 7-5, 7-6, 5-7, 6-1.

Nadal now eyes the Roland Garros  or the French Open which commences 27 May onward and hope to win the Grand Slam.

ATP Rome: Men's Final Postponed till Monday Midday

The Rome Open final between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic has been put back to Monday due to heavy rain in the Italian capital. 

Play between the Spaniard and the Serb is due to get underway at midday tomorrow. 

Djokovic is the current holder of the title after he beat Nadal in last year's final.

Sunday's Women's final between Maria Sharapova and Li Na featured a lengthy delay after rain set in. World number two Sharapova eventually went on to win the match in three sets.

So it is final now: Nadal has already qualified forthe finla beating fellow countryman Ferrero.

Would Djokovic defend his title? Would Nadal let him?

Now the world no.2 and the defending champion Novak Djokovic beats world no.2 Swiss Roger Federer 6-2, 7-6(4) Saturday-Sunday night and moves to the final to defend his title, Nadal has to be very assertive and resilient if he want to dominate the Serb.

Both Nadal and Djokovic have met 31 times before Sunday's title due and Nadal has a winning edge of 17-14 over the Serb. And of 13 matches of played on clay, Nadal has won all but two which were won over by Djokovic. Nadal last won on clay against Djokovic was at Monte Carlo 2012, and last lost to Djokovic here at Rome in 2011.

In the last ten matches played by both, the Serb has lost twice at the hands of Nadal at Monte Carlo and Tipsarevic at Madrid. Nadal on the other hand has lost once at Madrid at the hands of F. Verdasco. 

So while Novak Djokovic will try to defend his title Sunday, Nadal would try to avenge the Blues of the blue clay of Madrid.

Nadal Reaches seventh Rome Masters Final

In the first semi final of the day, World No.3 Spaniard Rafael Nadal beat fellow countryman David Ferrero 7-6(8/6), and 6-0 Saturday to reach his seventh Rome Masters fianl that gets played Sunday, 20 May 2012.

At the time of writing the post, the second semi final between World no.1 and the defending champion Serbian Novak Djokovic and World no.2 Swiss Roger Federer is in progress with the Serb leading the first set 4-2.

Nadal, winner of the Foro Italico trophy in five of seven appearances in the Italian capital, also won a 39th straight clay court semi-final and has not lost at the final-four stage on the surface since 2003.

It is the thrid time that Ferrero has been beaten by Nadal in Rome.

Let us wait now of the result of the second final and see whether Djokovic gets to defend his title tomorrow or it is the Swiss who confront the Spaniard Sunday 20 May 2012.

Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer will clash for the 25th time in Rome Masters semi-finals since 2006. Of these 25 encounters, the Swiss dominates the Serb 14-11. The last time the two clashed against each other was at ATP The Mubadala World Tennis Championship (UAE) in 2011 when the Swiss overpowered the Serb in straight simple two srts 6-2, 6-1.

Both players are in their best form whith Federer having a 9-1 win/loss of the last ten matches he played, while Djokovic lost two of his last ten matches against Nadal at Monte Carlo and J. Tipsarevic at Madrid.

Today's encounter would tell whether the Swiss allows the Serb to defend the title or takes upon himself to do hold the title silverware.

Both Ferrer and Nadal are not new to each other as they have contested each other twenty times since 2004 with Nadal having an upper edge over Ferrer 15-5. Last time the both met was at Barcelona recently, when Nadal won 7-6(1), 7-5.

Of the ten matches played by the two recently, Ferrer has lost twice to Federer (Madrid) and Nadal at Barcelona. Nadal only lost one his last ten matches to F. Verdasco at Madrid.

The match today is important for Nadal to overcome his Blue clay voes he had at Madrid.

The fourth and the last quarterfinal match of ATP Rome Friday today is between the newly elavated to world no.2 ranking Swiss Roger Federer and 30th ranked Italian Andres Seppi.

Roger marched in to the quarters after defeating J CFerrero 6-2, 5-7 and 6-1, while Seppi beat S. Wawrinka in a hard and tough match culminating 6-7(1) 7-6(6) 7-6(6).

Seppi is not new to Federer as he has met him eight times before since 2007 - although with no win as Federer has cleaning winning edge of 7-0 over Seppi.

Of the last ten matches played by each player, the Swiss has lost only once at Miami at the hands of Roddick, while Seppi has had two setbacks at ATP Madrid and Bucharest earleir this year.

The quarterfinal match between Federer and Seppi is scheduled for Friday, 18 May at 19:00 GMT

The Internazionali BNL d’Italia tennis tournament enters the quarterfinals stage Friday today and in one of the QF matches, the defending champion and world number 1 Serbian Novak Djokovic faces 5th ranked French Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the Rome Internazionali BNL d’Italia tennis tournament.

Djokovic moves into the quarters after beating J Monaco 4-6 6-2 6-3 Thursday on  awindy day at Rome. Tsonga moves into the QF after a straight run over Del Potro 6-4, 6-1.

Both the Serb and the French have met 10 times before their clash today. Interestingly, the French has a winning dge over the Serbian of 6-4. All of their encounters so far have been on Grass or Hard courts - Friday's being their first match on the clay. Their most difficult match was the Australian Open 2010, when Tsonga won after a long hard contested match of five complete sets 7-6(8) 6-7(5) 1-6 6-3 6-1.

The form of both players at this point in time is almost equal as of the last ten matches played, Djokovic has lost two, while Tsonga has lost three. How it turns out to be, let us watch the match today afternoon.

Earlier Rafael Nadal brushed aside fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers 6-1, 6-1 on Thursday in Rome to secure his place in the quarter-finals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. The Czech  Tomas Berdych defeated Almagro 7-6(3), 6-3 in the third round Thursday.

It is the sixteenth encounter of the two players. In the earlier fiften matches, Nadal has an upper edge of 12-3 over the Czech since 2005. Last time the two met was at Australian Open 2012, when Nadal beat Berdych 6-7(5) 7-6(6) 6-4 6-3.

In the last ten matches, Nadal has twice, the last against Federer at Madrid, while Berdych has lost once against F. Verdasco at Madrid too.

The match is scheduled for Friday, 18 May 2012 at 11: 30 GMT

Del Potro has a rather clean sheet of 9-1 of the last ten matches played, while Tsonga has a stained record of 5-5. Tsonga last lost to A. Dolgopolov 7-5 3-6 7-6(2) at Madrid.

Both Potro and Tsonga have across six times in their career since 2007 and the Argentinian has a 5-1 lead over the French.

Going by the win-loss edge and the form both palyers are at the moment, it can be safely predicted that Del Potro will have a winning edge over the French in Thursday evening's match.

In the third round of the ATP Rome Thursday evening today, World No.2 Roger Federer of Switzerland meets 47th ranked Juan Carlos Ferrero from Spain.

Both Federer and Ferrero have known each other since 2000 and have played 13 matches in all against each other, with Federer having a winning edge of 9-4 over Ferrero.

Federer last won over Ferrer 7-6(2) 3-6 6-1 6-3 in Wimbledon 2007, while Ferroro last beat Federer in 2004 ATP Hong Kong 6-4, 6-4. As can be seen their last encounter was five year ago and since then both have changed. However, Federer is fresh from his Madrid win, and should not find any difficulty in subduing the Spaniard.

Federer has lost only one of his last ten matches at Miami against Raonic. But Ferrero has had a troubled  2012 so far as he has lost seven of his last ten matches played. He last lost to I. Andreev 6-4 7-6(4) in Madrid recently.

Both Djokovic and Monaco have met five times before since 2005 Wimbledon and the Serb has 5-0 winning edge over the Argentinian.

Djokovic has lost twice in the last ten matches he played in 2012, icluding defeats at the hands of countryman Janko Tipsarevic in Madrid and Nadal at Monte Carlo. Monaco too had been defeated twice in the last ten matched of 2012. He retired while playing Haase at Monte carlo when it was one set all and the third set was in progress with Haase winning 3-2.

Florian Mayer vs Rafael Nadal Free Live Streaming (ATP Rome)

Nadal may not have liked the remarks of recently crowned Serena Williams about men and their reservations about the blue clay, but he would be happy to play again on the red clay at Rome when he begins his tournament here in the second round against 28th ranked German Florian Mayer, Wednesday afternoon today.

Florian Mayer has had a bad start in 2012 as he has lost seven out of last ten matches he has played. He lsot to Del Potro in Madrid 4-6, 2-6.
