In the absence of Federer, the most possible finalists were Novak and Murray - and here they really are playing the US Open 2012 men's singles final Monday tonight at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York.
Earlier Sunday night, American Serena Williams won the ladie's singles final beating world no.1 Azarenka 6-2 2-6 7-5. Serena thus becomes the first player aged over 30 to win the US Open women's singles since Martina Navratilova in 1987.
Now coming back to the men's singles final tonight. World no. 4 and Olympic Gold Medalist British Murray and world no.2 Australian Open title holder Serbian Djokovic have long list of matches played against each other since they first met in 2006 at Madrid. Of the 14 matches both played against each other, Djokovic has a winning edge of 8-6 against Murray. However, Murray beat Djokovic recently in Olympic in the semi finals 7-5, 7-5, which gives an edge to Murray, who later went on to win the Olympic gold medal, beating world no.1 Roger Federer.
But that was playing on grass. Of the 11 matches played on hard court, Djokovic has beat Murray 6 times and twice on clay. However, Murray seems in a better form and will be too happy to win his first career Grand Slam this year. Djokovic too would like to restore his status as he has not won any Grand Slam since Australia Open earlier this year - a win tonight will be his sixth career Grand Slam victory.
The match is scheduled for Monday, 10 September 2012 at 20:00 GMT at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.
